Monk skills
This page lists all Monk skills, as of mid-September 2011. Many skills and rune effects changed shortly before the beta test began, and more changes and additions are expected before the final game is shipped.

Spirit Generator
Spirit generator skills are commonly referred to as "combos." These skills all have three hits, with different effects on all three and a much larger effect on the third hit. Combos can be mixed and matched, with the three hits coming from three different combos. This is useful to obtain different bonuses or debuffs, or just for fun.

Deadly Reach Spirit Generator Combo (Level 4) |
[e] Generate: 6 Spirit per attack Project lines of pure force over a short distance for 120% weapon damage. Every third hit extends out 25 yards. |
Crippling Wave Spirit Generator Combo (Level 8) |
[e] Generate: 6 Spirit per attack A series of large sweeping attacks that causes 135% weapon damage to all enemies in front of you. Every third hit damages all enemies around you and dazes them, slowing movement by 50% for 4.5 seconds. |
Exploding Palm Spirit Generator Combo (Level 12) |
[e] Generate: 6 Spirit per attack The first two strikes in the attack deal 100% weapon damage. The third strike causes the target to bleed for 65% of weapon damage per second for 3 seconds. If the target dies while bleeding, it explodes, dealing 30% of the target's maximum Life as physical damage to all other enemies nearby. |
Sweeping Wind Spirit Generator Combo (Level 17) |
[e] Generate: 6 Spirit per attack Strike a target for 100% weapon damage. Every third hit creates a vortex of air that surrounds you. The vortex of air lasts 5 seconds and deals 20% weapon damage per second to all enemies within 10 yards. This vortex effect can stack up to 3 times for a total of 60% weapon damage per second to nearby enemies. |
Way of the Hundred Fists Spirit Generator Combo (Level 21) |
[e] Generate: 6 Spirit per attack A rapid series of punches strikes enemies for 135% weapon damage. |
Spirit Spender
Spirit Spender skills are often referred to as "finishing moves." These all expend spirit when used, and therefore must be deployed wisely and situationally, with spirit generators used in between to rebuild the Spirit necessary to fuel these powerful attacks.

[e] Costs: 30 Spirit Create a flash of light that blinds all enemies within 20 yards for 3 seconds. Blinded enemies have a 30% chance to miss with attacks and will not attack unless they are attacked first. |
Lashing Tail Kick Spirit Spender (Level 3) |
[e] Cost: 30 Spirit Unleash a deadly roundhouse kick, knocking enemies back and dealing 225% weapon damage. |
Breath of Heaven Spirit Spender (Level 5) |
[e] Cost: 25 Spirit A blast of holy energy heals you and all allies within 12 yards for 4790-6387 Life. |
Dashing Strike Spirit Spender (Level 6) |
[e] Cost: 15 Spirit Dash quickly at the targeted enemy or location dealing 160% weapon damage and rooting the target for 1 second. |
Lethal Decoy Spirit Spender (Level 7) |
[e] Cost: 75 Spirit Create an illusion of pure holy energy that attracts enemies to itself and explodes after 1 seconds for 379% weapon damage as Holy. |
Inner Sanctuary Spirit Spender (Level 11) |
[e] Cost: 80 Spirit Create a circle of protection on the ground for 8 seconds that cannot be passed by enemies. |
Tempest Rush Spirit Spender (Level 16) |
[e] Cost: 3 Spirit plus an additional 12 Spirit per second Run directly through your enemies knocking them back and hobbling them, slowing their movement by 50% for 3 seconds. Also deals 75% of weapon damage per second while running. |
Serenity Spirit Spender (Level 18) |
[e] Cost: 35 Spirit You are enveloped in a protective shield that intercepts all incoming damage for 3 seconds and grants immunity to all control impairing effects. |
Seven-Sided Strike Spirit Spender (Level 24) |
[e] Cost: 50 Spirit Dash rapidly between many nearby enemies 7 times striking for 130% weapon damage with every hit. |
Mystic Ally Spirit Spender Summon (Level 27) |
[e] Cost: 50 Spirit Summon an elemental ally capable of engaging enemies in combat until it is destroyed. The ally deals 21-36 physical damage per swing. |
Wave of Light Spirit Spender (Level 29) |
[e] Cost: 50 Spirit Focuses the power of Light to smite all enemies in front of you for 57-85 Holy damage followed by an additional 36-57 Holy damage to all enemies in a line. |
Mantras
Mantras were formerly called "Auras." These skills create temporary protective buffs for the Monk and his allies.

[e] Cooldown: 15 seconds Recite a Mantra that grants you and all allies within 40 yards a 30% chance to dodge attacks. Lasts 120 seconds. Dodge chance is doubled in the first 3 seconds. This is a Mantra. You can only have one Mantra active at a time. |
Mantra of Retribution Mantras Mantra (Level 9) |
[e] Cooldown: 15 seconds Recite a Mantra that causes you and all allies within 40 yards to reflect melee damage back at enemies, dealing Holy damage equal to 40% of the damage sustained. Lasts 120 seconds. This is a Mantra. You can only have one Mantra active at a time. |
Mantra of Healing Mantras Mantra (Level 14) |
[e] Cooldown: 15 seconds Recite a Mantra that causes you and all allies within 40 yards to gain increased Life regeneration by 106.4 Life per second. Lasts 120 seconds. Life regeneration is doubled in the first 3 seconds. This is a Mantra. You can only have one Mantra active at a time. |
Mantra of Conviction Mantras Mantra (Level 22) |
[e] Cooldown: 15 seconds Recite a Mantra that causes all enemies within 20 yards of you to take 20% additional damage. Lasts 120 seconds. Additional damage is doubled in the first 3 seconds. This is a Mantra. You can only have one Mantra active at a time. |
Passive Skills
Passive skills have undergone many changes during game development. As of the beta test, each character can only enable 3 passive skills in total, with the skill slots unlocked at levels 10, 20, and 30.
Passive skills replaced Traits during late game development in 2011. Many Traits were simply changed to passive skills, but some are all new. See the Monk traits page for a full list of those passives.

Removed Skills
The following skills were removed or renamed prior to the July 2011 Press Event:

Impenetrable Defense, Radiant Visage, and Force Without Thought were removed from the Monk's skill listing between Blizzcon 2009 and Blizzcon 2010.
