Familiar is a Utility Wizard skill unlocked at Level 27, summoning a companion that fights for the caster.

Background

Familiar in action

Familiar assists in the killing, but does not distract monsters from their own attacks. Nothing is known about the spells the familiar will use, but it could be a valuable defensive tool as well as a damage dealer, if it casts skills like Frost Nova.

The following is a very quick list. See the Familiar rune effects page for a more thorough summary of rune effects, or any of the individual rune pages for numbers, screenshots, blue quotes, and much more.

Synergies

Development

Familiar was added in BlizzCon 2010, presumably responding to some need of the Wizard. To add more potential damage, or to give the Wizard a way to attack while running or dodging?

Skill tiers were removed for the July 2011 Press Event, and Familiar became a level 27 skill.
