Wall of Zombies is a Witch Doctor skill enabled at level 27. One of the more creative skills in Diablo III, WoZ causes a tightly-spaced line of zombies to erupt from the ground, blocking the progress of monsters and tearing apart any monsters that come into their reach.

Skill Design

Zombie wall killing Skeletons.

This skill looks like a lot of fun to everyone who sees it. It's not been tested in any of the Blizzcon demos, so little is known about the short or long term damage capacity.

As there is no player collision at all in Diablo III, this skill does not block[1] the Witch Doctor or other players or their miniosn or pets from moving right through it. This prevents using the skill for griefing, but seems a little lacking in realism, to many players.

Skill Rank Table

  • Rank 1: Zombies emerge from the ground and attack nearby monsters for 7 damage per second. Cost: 13 mana.

Skill Rune Effects

The only known runestone effect is the so-called "Zombie Tower" which causes the zombies to climb out of the ground and stack up like gymnasts, before pitching forward to land on enemies below in a splat of poisonous goo. This effect was revealed in the August 2011 pre-beta gameplay movie.

It's not yet known which rune creates this effect.

The tower falls.
A second tower takes form.

Development

Wall of Zombies was first introduced in the WWI 2008 gameplay video when Diablo III premiered. Back then, it was in the Voodoo Skill Tree, then moved to the Zombie Skill Tree, before skill trees were removed for the game. It was a Tier 5 skill until skill tiers were removed for the July 2011 Press Event, and Wall of Zombies became a level 27 skill.
