IconCompanion.png

Companion is a Hunting Demon Hunter skill unlocked at Level 17. The creatures summoned by this skill are not tanks or minions, and exist basically as portable, animal-themed buffs. They are a supplement to the Demon Hunter's main attacks and movements, but not a major strategic factor, unlike the D2 Amazon's Valkyrie.

Background[edit | edit source]

Companion in action.

The Demon Hunter summons a variety of animal companions to assist in the battle.

Skill Rune Effects[edit | edit source]

See the Companion rune effects page for a more thorough description of rune effects, or any of the individual rune pages for numbers, screenshots, blue quotes, and much more.

Name Level Description

<skill class="DemonHunter">Companion</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter" rune="Spider Companion">Companion</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter" rune="Bat Companion">Companion</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter" rune="Boar Companion">Companion</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter" rune="Ferret Companion">Companion</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter" rune="Wolf Companion">Companion</skill>

Skill Design[edit | edit source]

The original design of the Archer class in Diablo III was more of a woodland ranger, who would have shown a sort of harmony with nature. These animal-themed skills would have fit naturally with that character design. They do not match with the Demon Hunter, and were apparently left in simply because the developers liked the effects, rather than for any sort of logical lore reason.

Synergies[edit | edit source]

The following Demon Hunter passives provide a benefit to Companion, runed or not:

Name Level Description

<skill class="DemonHunter">Steady Aim</skill> <skill class="DemonHunter">Perfectionist</skill>

Development[edit | edit source]

Companion was first seen at the July 2011 Press Event, where it was a level 16 skill. Unfortunately, no information about the skill's function was available.

Beta[edit | edit source]

When the beta started in September 2011, Companion was changed to level 15. The skill system was once again overhauled for the Beta Patch 13, and Companion was classified as a Shadow skill and moved up to level 25. For Beta Patch 14, it was re-classified as a Hunting skill and dropped to level 17. Also, the "Hunting" category replaced "Shadow".

In Other Games[edit | edit source]

Companion is an updated (and hopefully more useful) version of Diablo II's Druid skill Raven.

Media[edit | edit source]

Companion can be seen in action on video here:

  • None yet.
