Background[edit | edit source]

Ignore Pain in action.

The Barbarian ignores almost all pain caused to him for a short period of time.

Skill Rune Effects[edit | edit source]

The following is a very quick summary. See each page for a more thorough description of rune effects, or any of the individual rune pages for numbers, screenshots, blue quotes, and much more.

Skill Design[edit | edit source]

Ignore Pain sequence, showing the orbiting "shields" within the globe of protection.

This skill is really useful for tough situations, where no amount of skills can save you and your only chance is to survive being pounded by a mob of monsters until help can arrive or to plan your next move. This is also useful during boss fights, as 50% damage reduction coupled with Second Wind will make damage against the Barbarian almost useless. A skill that hardcore players might take a liking to, its only drawback is the suspended fury gain and it is assumed that fury will continue depleting for the duration of the spell.

Development[edit | edit source]

Ignore Pain was first seen at BlizzCon 2008, where it was at Tier III on the Battlemaster Skill Tree. Then, it reduced damage taken by 70% for 10 seconds, and would not suspend fury gain at rank one.

The skill was slightly adjusted for BlizzCon 2009; damage reduction was lowered, and fury gain was suspended. Flux had this to say on the subject:[1]

This sounds like a red alert emergency skill. Stopping your Fury gain, even for 6 seconds, is a huge cost, as mandatory as it is to keep refilling Fury so you can keep using your killing skills. But 50% damage reduction could be a life saver. Would you be clever enough to spend this point, put it on your hotbar, and remember to use it quickly enough to save your bacon?

At BlizzCon 2010, Ignore Pain was available in the gameplay demo but not one of the Barbarian's starting skills, and there are no gameplay reports describing it.

Skill tiers were removed for the July 2011 Press Event, allowing skills to unlock steadily from levels 1 to 30. Consequently, all skill levels were adjusted and Ignore Pain became a level 4 skill.

Beta[edit | edit source]

The Diablo III Beta started in September 2011, and while it ran, all of the skills continued to undergo extensive iteration. Skill changes varied from changing the levels the skills are unlocked, to changes in resource cost, damage, and even function. A few skills were removed altogether, and a few new ones were added. Also, the entire skill system received an overhaul with the Beta Patch 13 update in February 2012, with physical runes replaced by rune effects that automatically unlock at various levels for the different skills.

Ignore Pain was moved to level 5 for the beta. With the Patch 13 changes, it was classified as a Defensive skill and bumped all the way up to level 22.
