Piro Marella

The Piro Marella is a crafted legendary Crusader Shield that can only be created in Reaper of Souls.

To create this item, find the Plan: Piro Marella, which can be randomly dropped randomly by any level 70 target, and teach the plan to the Blacksmith. Once learned by the smith, any character on your account can make as many of these as you can afford to create, though the item can only be equipped by the Crusader.

Piro Marella stats

This shield offers good defensive bonuses with high Armor and block amount, plus increased blocking chance. The legendary property is also useful, most for Crusaders who are using Shield Bash, of course.

Crafting

Once a player finds the randomly-dropped plan and teaches it to the Blacksmith, the item can be created by any character on that account. This item always has a lvl 70 requirement, no matter what level character crafts it. The Smart Loot system means that this item will usually roll with a mainstat and/or +skill damage bonus appropriate to the class of the character that creates it.

Patch 2.0.6 controversially[1] removed Legendary Materials, which changed the crafting costs for every level 70 RoS recipe. Prior to that patch Board Walkers required 1 Woven Plate and 1 Death's Breath.

Legendary Materials were controversially[2] removed in Patch 2.0.6. The following is archived for posterity.

The required legendary material, Woven Plate, can only be dropped by Unique Skeletal Shieldbearer at level 70. These are most often encountered in Act One. Bounty -- Captain Cage, Act 1, Cathedral Level 4. Event, Bounty -- Enmerkar, Act 1, Festering Woods. Spawns during the Last Stand of the Ancients event. Bounty -- Captain Donn Adams, Act 3, The Keep Depths Level 1.
