Dark Mage's Shade is a legendary wizard hat that can be found in Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls. This item can only be equipped by the Wizard, and will only very rarely drop for any other class.

The Smart Drop system ensures that wizard hats will usually roll with Intelligence, or at least never roll with Strength or Dexterity. Any bonus skill damage will be tuned to Wizard skills as well.

Dark Mage's Shade properties

This item has a legendary affix that casts the protective Diamond Skin skill when the Wizard drops below 35% hit points. This can be a life saver, and makes the helm more popular in Hardcore than Softcore, though it's not a huge hit in either mode of gameplay.
