Blitzbolter is a crafted legendary hand crossbow that can only be created in Reaper of Souls. After Patch 2.0.6 this item no longer requires a Wooden Stake or any other legendary material to craft.

To create this item, find the Plan: Blitzbolter, which can be randomly dropped randomly by any level 70 target, and teach the plan to the Blacksmith. Once learned by the smith, any character on your account can make as many of these as you can afford to create, though only the Demon Hunter can equip it.

Blitzbolter stats

This hand crossbow has no special modifiers and only a randomly set of affixes. It can roll with higher numbers than rare weapons, so may be useful for a Demon Hunter just getting into the end game but the goal should be to find a legendary bow or crossbow with a legendary affix that will out perform this weapon.

Blitzbolter: Legendary Hand Crossbow Item Level: 70 Primary Affixes: +(858-1049)-(1028-1304) Holy Damage +3 random primary affixes Secondary Affixes: +2 random primary affixes Legendary Affix: None. Good for putting the dead back in the ground.

Crafting

Once a player finds the randomly-dropped plan and teaches it to the Blacksmith, the item can be created by any character on that account. This item always has a lvl 70 requirement, no matter what level character crafts it.

• 40 Reusable Parts
• 30 Veiled Crystal
• 2 Forgotten Soul

Patch 2.0.6 controversially[1] removed Legendary Materials, which changed the crafting costs for every level 70 RoS recipe. Prior to that patch Blitzbolters required 1 Wooden Stake, 1 Marquise Topaz, and 1 Deaths Breath, along with the other materials.

Legendary Material

Legendary Materials were controversially[2] removed in Patch 2.0.6. The following is archived for posterity.

The required legendary material, [[Wooden Stake] is dropped only by Skeleton Archers. These are found most often in the Act One cathedral, but can be seen in parts of the Act Three Keep as well. They are not easy to farm, as they seldom appear as bounty targets, but are not uncommon in the Act One Cathedral areas as non-bounty random spawns. Bounty -- Killian Damort, Act 1, Cathedral Level 4. Bounty -- Belagg Pierceflesh, Act 3, The Keep Depths Level 3.
