Amethysts are one of the four types of gems found in Diablo III.
These are the least popular type of gems during the first months of Diablo III, since they do not add damage for any class; just hit points via vitality or % life.
Amethysts are more valuable for Hardcore characters, who need to carry higher hit points for obvious reasons. They are most valuable in helms, where 15% or more life can be worth many thousands of hit points for a high level character.
