The Jeweler could initially only make gem upgrades, the three highest levels of which had to be taught to him by finding the plans from monster drops.  [[Patch 1.0.7]] added the 15th level [[Marquise gem]], also taught by finding the design from a monster drop. Other patches  Additional Jeweler designs added in other patches include the four types of [[Hellfire Ring]], and the four types of level 63 Amulet.

These crafting recipes can only be created by the Jeweler, via his crafting tab. Mouse over the names to see a tooltip of the item details.
