Most weapons and armor in Diablo III will need repairs, after the hard use they're put to slaughtering the demonic hordes. Repairs can be done with most NPC merchants, making them easily-accessible all throughout the towns.

Prior to Beta Patch 10, only Haedrig Eamon the NPC blacksmith could repair items. This ability was taken from him and distributed widely to make it more convenient for players.

The developers have promised that repairs will be a major expense and a viable gold sink in the late game. Players can only take their word for this, as repair needs and costs are quite minimal in the early levels available in the beta.
