− | ==Part 1==
| |
− | My name is Lachdanan, and I am cursed. Once the captain of King Leoric's army, I lived only to honor my land and my king. No man has a greater love for his king than I had for mine--even as I drove my blade through his dark and corrupted heart.

− | It was Lazarus--of that I am certain. He alone had the king's ear and whispered dark and evil magics into it, instilling the notion of an imminent attack by Westmarch. Afraid to speak against the archbishop, the councilors nodded their empty heads in agreement and sent us off to die.

− | The Light fades...My vision dims...I remember...Who was I...Lachdanan? There was...someone...who pledged help to me, but it is so hard to think. There was...an adventurer. I bade him retrieve the Golden Elixir that shall release me from this living death. I must hold onto this, my final hope for redemption. I pray it is not too late.

Lachdanan's Scroll is a story scroll that was found on the first level of the dungeon below Tristram, in the BlizzCon 2008 demo.
When played, the scroll provided a lengthy narration by Lachdanan, an NPC who was seen in Diablo I. Lachdanan was the leader of King Leoric's knights, and the man who finally killed the mad king, putting him out of his misery. Leoric cursed Lachdanan and his followers as he died, and condemned them all to eternal damnation. Lachdanan alone survived this fate, when the hero found a special elixir for him on a quest in Diablo I.
Lachdanan's scroll in Diablo 3 basically retells his story from Diablo I, providing useful background information about King Leoric and the first major quest in D3. Not everyone playing the game will remember the quest events and story from the first game, after all.
