A Miner's Gold
Where: Howling Plateau, Act II
Trigger: Speak with the Crazed Miner.
Mob Details: Fallen, Fallen Shaman
Completion Details: Protect the Crazed Miner.
The Crazed Miner wants to raise a chest that has been down in a pit, and asks for the player to defend him while he uses the lift. Fallen will spawn each time the Crazed Miner speaks (generally about how the lift is stuck) and do not pose much of a challenge. They rise from the ground in large waves, again, with each piece of dialogue the miner has. The second wave will raise multiple Fallen Shaman who, in turn, do what fallen shaman do: raise fallen that you have just killed and lob fireballs. The fireballs can be hard to dodge due to the shaman's proximity to the player, but they don't do much damage. A second wave of fallen shaman will spawn as the player is dealing with the first, and while the battle continues, the event will complete itself. The Crazed Miner successfully brings the treasure to the surface, which contains a Resplendent Chest, and the player is rewarded with both loot and the normal event awards.

Event History
The following is archived text that was recorded during the development of Diablo III:
The quest is given by an NPC, the Crazed Miner who is found near some of the open mining pits in the Canyon Rim Mines area on teh surface of Act II. The Miner asks a hero to defend him while he raises a chest of gold via a pulley system. If you are successful, you get half the gold.
To complete the quest, players must stand their ground and fight off an attacking horde of Fallen. The enemies are not powerful, but they are numerous, and the quest changes up the usual play style for forcing players to hold a location, rather than engaging in the usual fighting-retreat large numbers of enemies can cause.
This quest was first described in a hands-on report from Gamescom 2009. [1]
- We ran into a "Crazed Miner," who offered us the quest, "A Miner's Gold." All we had to do was defend the miner while he raised a treasure chest via a pulley system. When he started, swarms of Fallen came after him. If we were successful in defending the miner from the swarm, we'd get half the gold. It really wasn't a challenge for the Barbarian, as Ground Stomp made that defense quest a simple task.
Strategy
The Fallen Imps aren't that dangerous, but they're numerous, so attacks that hit multiple enemies at once are most effective. Crowd control abilities, such as the Barbarian's Ground Stomp are also very useful to debuff or distract the enemies.
