beta patch 14 update

Disintegrate is a Secondary Wizard skill unlocked at Level 821, doing firing a laser beam of Arcane damage that moves instantly from the Wizard's hand to opponents the edge of the screen. Its piercing ability and unrivaled speed are slightly offset by the fact that the Wizard is stuck in an AoE lineplace while casting it.
The * An earlier version of this skill works like a laser beam, firing had a straight line of Arcane damage that moves instantly from the Wizard's hand to the edge of the screen. This makes the spell reach the enemies faster than any other spell in the game, and its ability to pass through as many targets as are in the way gives it impressive piercing abilitymuch more complicated operationThe drawbacks are fairly low damage, especially to targets behind the front rowFor details, and the fact that the Wizard is stuck in place while casting itsee: old Disintegrate.

Background
A Wizard can call forth a torrent death ray of Arcane energies to make matter simply vanish.
Range and Speed
Disintegrate seems like an infinite weapon at first glance, but it is limited in range and speed, as players come to realize after experimenting with it a bit. The range goes to and past the edge of the visible screen in most instances, but it does not quite reach the diagonal corners.

Synergies
Disintegrate benefits from the following Wizard passives:Passive skills headerWizard Passive Temporal FluxWizard Passive Glass CannonWizard Passive Arcane Dynamo  ==Development History== Disintegrate worked much differently during early development. The notes below are archived for historical purposesNone added yet.
<blockquote>Very useful blasting, instant speed to the edge of the level, but it requires a clear line or sight, and it holds the Wizard in place while using it. Smart Wizards I saw used it a lot, but in bursts. Any time they had a clear shot they’d cook someone from a distance, ideally over one of the openings in the ground. The damage per second wasn’t huge, but it added up and was very easy to hit with.</blockquote>
===Beta===Skill tiers were removed for shortly before the July 2011 Press Eventbetastarted in September 2011, and Disintegrate became a level 12 skill. It was moved up to level 8 during the betaFlux, and when the skill system was once again overhauled for the Beta Patch 13 in February 2012, Disintegrate was classified as a Secondary skill and bumped all the way up to level 20.  ===Double Damage Upon Target Lock===As pointed out by Madmaxio and Arkadier in a forum thread, Disintegrate kicks into a higher level of damage once discussed using it's been locked onto the same target for more than about half a second. This is usually indicated by the red beam turning purple, but in some sequences the double damage kicks in without the beam changing color at all. It's unclear if this is a graphical bug, or if there are two mechanisms to deal double damage with Disintegrate: critical hit AND longer time locked onto target. A few hits have been seen that seem to jump to quadruple damage, which might be a rare bonus from a lengthy lock on as well as a critical hit. This is still a subject of much debate, as contradictory evidence can be found in screenshot sequences taken from gameplay movies. See the Wizard forum thread on Diii.net for more details and images. Even more images and discussion can be found in this thread. That Disintegrate deals extra (double?) damage when it's locked has not yet been listed in the skill's in-game description, but it is an original feature of the skill, discussed by the developers since their earliest comments on the skill. <blue>The next spell, Disintegrate, was described as the ultimate face melting skill, and introduces a new mechanic. When you use Disintegrate, you will begin to emit a jet of searing red heat for as long as you hold down the mouse button. By sweeping the mouse around, you'll change the direction of the beam. The longer the beam holds on a specific enemy, the more damage it will do to that enemy.</blue>two]
<blockquote>As fast as the spell moves, it can feel slow to target, at least compared to Electrocute, since the beam only goes right where you point it. Electrocute jumps between targets, so if you click a spot in the middle of a pack, it will hit everything in an instant, without you even moving the mouse. Disintegrate doesn’t do that, so you have to move the cursor to move the beam, and that can feel ponderous. Your character pivots in place, and while you can rotate pretty quickly, it’s slow enough to feel slightly realistic, like you’re actually turning and moving, not just flipping instantly from left to right.</blockquote>
==Spell Colour Feedback==Not as bad as With the art controversyBeta Patch 8of December 2011, but some fans complained Disintegrate looks too much like a fire spellwas dropped to level 8. When the skill system was once again overhauled for the [[Bashiok]Beta Patch 13] replied to this feedback by saying: <blue>It doesn’t actually feel anything like fire in-game. The screenshots don't really give a good impression of the way it looks and acts. In a screenshot you may think… well it has a lot of colors of fireFebruary 2012, but in motion you just don’t get that impression. It comes across Disintegrate was classified as a red-dominated Secondary skilland bumped all the way up to level 20. And the sound of the ability actually plays a huge part in how it feelsWith March's Beta Patch 14, and it feels like a very focused was moved to level 21 and powerful energy beamits damage slightly reduced.</blue>

Trivia
With Diablo III, Blizzard have looked more at the traditional Dungeons & Dragons pen & paper RPG for inspiration. The Disintegrate spell is one of the "trademark" D&D spells, which name is likely taken in tribute to the pen & paper RPG.
