Unburied are somewhat reminiscent of Thorned Hulks from Diablo II. Both move slowly but hit quickly with huge shoulders and club-like arms. The Unburied are fleshy and undead (hence the name) though, rather than tree like, and they do not possess the Frenzy ability of Thorned Hulks.
Unburied were encountered in the dungeons below the Tristram Cathedral in the BlizzCon 2008 demo and have shown up in the gameplay movies as well. Despite their size they were not especially dangerous. They just hit a bit harder and took a lot more damage than the various smaller types of zombies.
Spells and Abilities
- None
Unburied has no known spells or special abilities.
Related Monsters
- Diablo II Thorned Hulk - Similar appearance
- Grotesque - Another undead construct.
Background
On February 26, 2009 Blizzard upload a special Bestiary page for the Unburied. This is what Abd al-Hazir Has to say about they way this monster is created: "Being born out of pits of human misery, these beings feed on human suffering. Wherever bodies are dumped together unceremoniously, the unburied may rise". That make the Unburied another type of undead construct.
Diablo I Monster
No monster like the Unburied is seen in Diablo I.
Diablo II Monster
The Thorned Hulk of Diablo II holds a resemblance to the Unburied, but the difference is of course that the Hulk is "made" out of wood, and the Unburied is undead.
Development
The Unburied was shown the first time in the BlizzCon 2008 demo and gameplay movies.
