The Forgotten Tombs was the first "dungeon-like" environments that Blizzard shown for Diablo 3. They are presumed to be located in the Leoric Highlands, or border to them, and you enter into the dungeons from New Tristram.
Relation to Diablo I
These dungeons are said by the D3 Team to be a re-interpretation of the old dungeons underneath Tristram. The Forgotten Tombs are part of the labyrinth of the first game, only with updated graphics for the new millennium, including new and old enemies.
Forgotten tombs Map
We only have one map of the forgotten tombs, from the WWI 2008 gameplay trailer. Mind you this is a dungeon that is subject to randomization, and will be different every time you try it. For the purpose of previewing how it CAN look, you can see the map on the right.
Art Controversy Start
The rich colour palettes of the dungeon helped spur the art controversy of some especially avid Diablo I/II fans.
