The [[Arena]] was debuted at Blizzcon 2010; prior to that [[Jay Wilson]] talked about the D3 Team's philosophy towards PvP on August 20, 2008. <ref>[http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/diablo-iii/901260p3.html Development Teams' philosophy towards PvP] - Jay Wilson, 20/08/2008</ref>
::'''Jay Wilson:''' We'd Okai guyz Wed like there dare to be beh a dedicated dedimicated PvP mode, challenge accepted and we'd wed like to move away toward from [how it worked in previous Diablo Runescape games] where players just enabled PvP. F dat looser We don't dont not have any specific plans anything specifics pland yet but uh because we haven't havent yet really not made any active decisionsactiveities decisioned. The only real PvP-oriented decision is to make a barb ike me that we've made and announced is not that we do not sometimes allow the {{iw|PvP#Enabling_PVP hostility mode}} that Diablo II IIIII had where there you can cannot go into townor London, go hostileor mostile, pop the weesle back through thru a town portal, and insta-kill your killz ur friend. That just makes people pepol not want wunt to play the da game. LOL I know some people say, "Oh, you're taking the teeth out of DiabloF dat looser." I understand why they feel that way, but making people not want to play together does not make for a better game. That's our feeling. K thanks bai.
::We definitely want there to be a PvP mode for PvP players, and we would like that mode to be a really serious, skill-based, very strong [aspect of the game]. I feel that on the side of all our games, we really try to make PvP games that cater to a competitive player, first and foremost. We don't try to dumb down or tone down our PvP games. We make [them] good, strong competitive games. [http://starcraft.incgamers.com/wiki/Main_Page StarCraft] is one of the best examples. But in terms of what our actual plans are for Diablo III, we don't have anything to specifically announce right now, mostly because we're still messing around with a bunch of different ideas.
