There will be was no PvP in Diablo III at launch.
Though Blizzard had long-promised special PvP Arenas in Diablo III, and there were playable (and very popular) Arena demos at BlizzCon 2010 and 2011, the developers did not have enough time to polish the Arena mode sufficiently to include it in Diablo 3 at launch. They have have committed to add the Arena system in a patch, one they hope to release later in 2012.<ref>[http://diablo.incgamers.com/blog/comments/new-info-on-pvp-in-diablo-iii PvP in Diablo 3] - Blizzard, April 29, 2012</ref>
==Arena Matchmaking==

While it will be possible to play in the Arena with or against your friends in established teams, the [[D3 Team]] are going to create a large matchmaking system to allow strangers to quickly get into games against opponents of equivalent skill, any time of the day or night.
And you’ll also be able to go in with organized teams, or to play alone and get slotted into a random team.</blue>

The matchmaking ui image above is included in the live Diablo 3 files but isn't active, however it sometimes appears when trying to log out of the game. It will simply pop up but it can not be interacted with.
==Arena Will Focus on Diablo III's Core Game==
[[File:Meteor-arena2.jpg|thumb|300px|Red vs. blue teams. Pets and spells are also marked.]]The Battle Arena is a game type presented to players via Battle.net. It won't be open to modding or variations created by players. This point was stressed by Jason Bender in an interview from Blizzcon 2010.<ref>[http://www.vg247.com/2010/10/27/interview-diablo-iiis-jason-bender-and-christian-lichtner-talk-demon-hunters-pvp-blizzard-on-consoles-tons-more/ Jason Bender @ Blizzcon 2010] - VG24/7. ::'''''VG247:''' How open is Arena PVP going to be as a platform? Where does it fall in the great Blizzard divide? Is it like StarCraft II: potentially able to house everything from puzzle games to Left 4 Dead rip-offs? Or is it like WoW, which is pretty much locked up tight aside from the occasional UI mod that skitters through?
