[[File:Crumbling vault map.jpg|right|350px]]A treasure hunter will stand outside the portal to the vault and give the hero a bit of exposition on its existence. When stars align, the portal opens, and a foolish adventurer (the player) may enter for riches and treasure, or to die when the portal seals itself and the vault finally crumbles.
The crumbling vault is an exceptionally unique event in that it is the only timed dungeon in the game, and is also the only event a player can actually fail. There are multiple achievements related to this event which will be listed below.
