Beta tests generally run until a few weeks before the launch, so it seems that Blizzard expects the Diablo III beta to last for about 5 monthswe release.
As of Blizzcon 2010, the more optimistic fans are hoping for the beta to begin in early 2011. More conservative estimates are for late 2011, or into 2012.
