The female Barbarian is identical in ability to the male, but her origin story is a bit different. She is younger and different from the individual who defeated Baal in Diablo 2. She is a new warrior, one who was motivated to go forth into battle since the men were not getting the job done.

Little is yet known about the female Barbarian's in-game character/plot story. The male Barbarian is the same individual who was playable in Diablo II. He's twenty years older now and has presumably been retired from combat for some time, but with the new threats to Sanctuary he sets out adventuring again, relearning his old combat techniques and growing strong again.

Nothing is yet known about the female Barbarian's plot story or origins. She's much younger than the male, and from the images we've seen she appears to be in the same early-20s age range as most of the other heroes.
