The Forgotten Tombs was are part of the first "dungeon-like" environments that Blizzard shown for catacombs the hero who killed Diablo 3in Tristram went through. They are presumed to can be located in reached from the Leoric HighlandsTristram Cathedraljust like in the original game, or border through the whole the meteorite created when it hit the cathedral. The Forgotten Tombs lead out to them, and you enter into the dungeons from New TristramLeoric Highlands.
Relation to Diablo I
These dungeons are said by the D3 Team to be a re-interpretation of the old dungeons underneath Tristram. The Forgotten Tombs are part of the labyrinth of the first game, only with updated graphics for the new millennium, including new and old enemies. Classics like Skeletons, Zombies etc returns, but new enemies like Ghouls and Grotesques have started invading the tombs.
Forgotten tombs Mapmap
We only have one map of the forgotten tombs, from the WWI 2008 gameplay trailer. Mind you this is a dungeon that is subject to randomization, and will be different every time you try it. For the purpose of previewing how it CAN look, you can see the map on the right.
The rich colour palettes of the dungeon helped spur the art controversy of some especially avid Diablo I/II fans.
