Diamonds were introduced into Diablo 3 in [[Loot 2.0]], when [[Diablo 3 version 2]] launched in late February 2014. They are also found in [[Reaper of Souls]].
The fifth type of gem in the game, Diamonds add new properties when socketed into weapons and armor. Other gems in the game are [[Amethyst]], [[Emerald]], [[Ruby]], and [[RubyTopaz]]. See [[gems|the main gems article]] for full details about gem scarcity, upgrade recipes, strategy, and more.
Diamonds are most sought for their [[All Resistance]] boost when socketed in armor, and are especially popular for Hardcore characters. They also grant cooldown reduction in helms (the only gem in a helm that actively boosts damage output) and +damage to Elites in weapons.
