The developers had often referred to first Diablo 3 "expansions" and had said that they thought Diablo 2 could easily have been expanded on further, so it was no surprise to see two expansions listed. The release date windows for thoseexpansion, 18 and 36 months after the initial game, seemed unlikely to be met, and as of February 2013, 9 months after Diablo 3's release, no official announcement of [[D3XReaper of Souls]] has been made. Most fans expect it to be announced at Blizzcon , was teased by Blizzard with a splash screen on August 13, 2013, which would be roughly 19 months after Diablo 3's releasewith official details and confirmation set for August 21st, with a release date of mid-2014 2013 at the soonest, which would be 24-26+ months after D3's releaseGamescom convention.
For Prior to the sake of comparisonreveal, Starcraft 2fans and Blizzard always treated the expansion as a 's 'fait accompli'', with only the content and date remaining to be determined. This impression was strengthened by the leaked product schedule which showed two expansions were also slated planned for release, 18 and 36 months after release and that timeframe proved wildly optimistic. Starcraft 2 was released on July 27, 2010, and the first expansion pack is set for release on March 12, 2013. That's 31.5 months; a similar length of time would bring forth Diablo 3's first expansion in January 2015initial game.
As usual for Blizzard the initial estimate proved optimistic and the first expansion wasn't announced until 15 months after release. No official release date has yet been offered.
