Leah in-game.

Leah is a beautiful young woman, Deckard Cain's adopted daughter and assistant. She appears as an NPC in the game, traveling with and assisting the character and taking on a more active role than the aged, infirm Cain could realistically manage.

She was also the narrator of and appeared in the Diablo III introductory cinematic, though it's not known if she'll continue that role in the final game cinematics.

  • Warning: Leah is a main character in Diablo III, and this entry may contain spoilers.

Known Information

Leah appears in and narrates the Diablo III introductory cinematic trailer. (Confirmed when Blizzard released a wallpaper with her image on it, entitled "Leah.") [[1]

She was also mentioned as a companion of Deckard Cain in the first gameplay trailer, released at the Paris WWI in 2008, with the game's debut. In that gameplay movie, when the Barbarian rescues Cain, he tells Cain to hurry back to the village since Leah worries about him.

Leah was seen, wielding a bow and arrow, beside Cain in screenshots of the Caravan town area, in August 2010.

Jay Wilson spoke about her in an interview from Gamescom, August 2010: [2]

in.Diablo.d3: Who’s Leah? What role does she play?
Jay Wilson: Leah is the adopted daughter of Deckard Cain. Cain’s a lot older; we felt like we needed another char to play some of his role. And also to be more active. We wanted a char who was out in the world with the player who would interact and help out. She’s a quest giver and sometimes companion.

Leah and Deckard Cain can be seen in the screenshots of the Caravan, from August 2010. Both are standing in a shadow near the very top of the screen in the images; a cropped version is seen to the left, with the levels turned up to make them more visible.

Prior to this official appearance, Leah made a sneak preview in an April Fool's screenshot with the Archivist. She was not initially recognized in the screenshot, partially since she's facing away from the camera, but her costume corresponds very well to the concept art of Leah seen in the Blizzard Museum at BlizzCon in August, 2009.

A fan realized this and pointed her out in September 2009, and a confirming comparison of the images can be seen to the right. [3]

Plot Speculation

There was speculation going about that Leah, the girl from the cinematic trailer, is actually the daughter of Pablo DeSoto mentioned in the lore, in the writing's of Abd al-Hazir as presented on Blizzard's website. This remains unconfirmed. This encounter can be read about in the 20th entry.

I likewise found it odd that there seemed to be only elderly people in the village, with the exception of one beautiful young woman whose father was quite insistent I keep my distance from her. Though he was rude on this point, I found him to be a rather sociable sort once convinced I was not interested in his daughter. He introduced himself as Pablo DeSoto

New evidence refers to the possibility that Leah is Adria's daughter. This speculation comes from a gameplay video[4] at the bottom of the official website's "Back to Basics: Class Resource Systems" webpage.

Media

Leah has only been indirectly seen in screenshots, thus far. She made an appearance with the Archivist in an April Fool's shot, and is seen in shadows at the top edge of the screen in several of the early Caravan screenshots. She has appeared more often in cinematic shots and pieces of character art.
