Life Steal heals with a percentage of the total damage done, and therefore scales up considerably for characters with very high damage. Life on Hit always delivers X amount with a successful hit, and is not subject to percentage decreases on higher difficulty levels (as Life Steal is), but LoH does not [[proc]] with a number of indirect skill effects, while Life Steal often does.
For instance, the Monk's [[Sweeping Wind]] skill effect procs with Life Steal but does not with Life on Hit, making Life Steal a far more valuable modifier for characters using that skill.
