Followers [[Follower]]s are Diablo III's answer to the {{iw|Mercenaries Mercenaries}} of Diablo II. There are three followers, the [[Scoundrel]], [[Enchantress]], and [[Templar]], each of whom has their own personality and back story. Followers join your hero only when he or she is playing solo, and they are only strong enough to be of use in Normal difficulty.

In addition to the Followers, players will regularly encounter "Hirelings[[Hireling]]s," wandering [[NPCs ]] that join up for a short time, usually just a single [[quest]].
