Stonefort

Revision as of 12:57, 7 May 2013 by Flux (talk | contribs)

The Stonefort is the second level in Act Three. It is a surface area atop the towering Bastion's Keep, composed of numerous narrow ridges and battlements, mixed in with larger open areas atop the castle walls.

There are no sub-dungeons or varying events or quests in this area, and all the quests and events will only load if this area is done by a player running the full quest. If a player runs this area having already completed the quest, none of the catapults need be raised and there are no NPCs to dialogue with.

Stonefort is reached through the Skycrown Battlements, or by the Stonefort waypoint, which is the first one in Act Three (other than the one in town). Stonefort is a long, zigzagging level with no major dead ends or detours, and it does not connect to any other areas. Players must use a Town Portal to exit the level.

Quests

Stonefort houses the Turning the Tide quest in Act III, which requires players to assist NPC soldiers in raising three catapults. These three events may be shepherded individually, but experienced players generally race right past the first two, after clicking the NPCs enough to start the quests. Those catapults will raise on their own without direct player involvement, and will finish around the time a player reaches the end of the level.

The third catapult, found very near the end of the level, does require clicking to facilitate (and greatly accelerate) the lifting process, an operation cursed by the most annoying, nagging NPC in the entire game.

Xah’Rith the Keywarden

This area became much more important in Patch 1.0.5 when the Infernal Machine was added to the game, since Xah’Rith the Keywarden is found in some random location within the Stonefort level. Players can usually find him just by racing through the main portion of the level, but he may also spawn up on the various side turrets and levels, so a more thorough exploration may sometimes be required.

Map

Stonefort is like all surface areas in Diablo 3, and has a static, fixed layout that does not vary between games. There are no random events or sub-dungeons on this level, though the placement of all monsters, chests, and other clickables varies from game to game.
