Welcome 2

I had to archive my talk page, it was getting too long. Welcome to the new one, feel free to leave any messages at the bottom of the page!

You can find the old one here. Please don't edit that one! :P If you want to continue on older topics, make a new one and bring it up like if it was a new one. I brought over a few topics that are a bit recent.

Cheers! --Leord 14:34, 7 August 2009 (CEST)

Appreciation

Thank you for the touch-ups you did to the Alchemist page. As an English major, I was in agony over making such a mistake as putting "theirselves". If there are any other problems with the page, please feel free to correct them. I have not had much experience in writing webpages, but I am learning. Also, if you have any ideas, I am very open to imput. I do have a question: Is diablowiki.net connected to diii.net? I have noticed that my Alchemist page has appeared there as well, I wanted to make sure they were allowed to do so. -- 21:25, 8 July 2009 Kire

You're quite welcome! :) Any edits in the wiki, you can get help in the help section. As for Talk page comments, you can simply sign them with the press of a key, more info here.
Diii.net is running DiabloWiki, but the contribs here does not necessarily have any connections with Diii.net. As for classes, do you mean this one? Doesn't look like it's the same, other than the name. :) As for "allowed", I am not sure what you mean. It's the internet, and you probably don't have a trademark for Alchemist. ;) Other than that, we don't impose any special user rights other than normal law. --Leord 11:49, 9 July 2009 (CEST)
For what I can find, anything on this Wiki is completely uncopyrighted, so it's basically right-to-copy.
Somewhat related is the message above the Summary bar; "(see Project:Copyrights for details)". Redlink, oops? ;) --Vipermagi 15:31, 9 July 2009 (CEST)
I know there are some rights reserved, for legal reasons etc. But over all, it's a pretty open affair :) --Leord 15:41, 9 July 2009 (CEST)
Thanks again for clearing that up! And I do recognize that people are free to copy and edit anything on the site, so I'm not trying to lay claim to it. Sorry if I sounded like a jealous user -I think I was just shocked to see links to the Alchemist page on other sites so quickly. I need to also thank you for the link you gave me to the forum at Diii.net on Alchemists. I am now in touch with users with similar interests to my own! --Kire 11:27, 9 July 2009 (CEST)
Cool! Yeah, things I do tend to get popular quick. Great to be back online as well. Been a horrible 2 odd weeks! --Leord 13:51, 6 August 2009 (CEST)

Skill template

Holidays are boring.
Do you know approx. what skill pages you've created? I can spend some hours creating pages, since I have little better to do :P --Vipermagi 00:02, 20 July 2009 (CEST)

While I possibly have your attention: Special:Contributions/AlgetMonco → Vandal that dislikes you. --Vipermagi 11:29, 20 July 2009 (CEST)
Noticed. He's blocked now. I don't know if that helps. thatnks for keeping my talk page clean. Need to start archiving now as well :P
As for the skills, it's pretty easy to see which ones are made by looking at the skill navboxes for the wizard. I am literally doing one tree at the time, going through it from first to last :) --Leord 13:51, 6 August 2009 (CEST)
When I get some free time again (preparing for a LAN weekend atm :) ) I'll start with the Barbarian. *writes a note on his desktop* --Vipermagi 14:02, 6 August 2009 (CEST)
Absolutely awesome. As we finalize these, we'll start making more wiki updates on the front of Diii.net as well. We took a big hit for the downtime, no time to spare to get it back! --Leord 14:04, 6 August 2009 (CEST)

Synnargeez

Conjured_Health#Synergies. CH synergizes with Mirror Image, not the other way around; I figured that header would be for skills that synergize with the skill you're looking at? Makes more sense to me. What's your thoughts on this case? --Vipermagi 19:24, 6 August 2009 (CEST)

Well, my idea was to have the term "synergy" to basically list all spells that are directly related. I'm using an old term because people are familiar with it. I am fairly certain there will be no "generally synergistic" spells like in Diablo II. You will have the 1 Rank spells (for Wizard) and then the 15 rank Skills. Possibly 2-15 varies between skills, but that basic design. A bit like skills and talents in one tree, talking in WoW terms (I should make an article about that!). --Leord 14:30, 7 August 2009 (CEST)
What do you think? I am very open for suggestions at this stage :) --Leord 14:30, 7 August 2009 (CEST)
I just find listing affected skills on passives a bit redundant, since the direct effect is listed in both Background and Description.
Also, on skill ranks: Base will be 5 max, and it's possible to get a higher cap (10 and 15) for an X amount of skills (unknown X). --Vipermagi 14:51, 7 August 2009 (CEST)
We'll see about the base. Most Wizard skills are 15. As for listing, I like it. It's like the official list with all things affecting or affected by it. If someone wants to reference a spell, it's great to have it in a standardised place, if you can't be bothered to look for the link in BG/Description etc. --Leord 14:58, 7 August 2009 (CEST)
A Bashiok quote on skill point caps:
One important addition to this is the skill caps themselves. Currently we're envisioning the majority of skills to be capped at 5 points, to begin with. As a form of progression we're planning for players to be able to increase the point caps of skills. More than likely to a maximum of 15. It's a system that's still under heavy design, but the fact of choosing and increasing key skills beyond their initial cap is important to this new unified tier system.</pre>
So, most Wizard skills are actually 5 :P
As for the list: Okay. It's not like I'll die over the redundancy :) --Vipermagi 15:25, 7 August 2009 (CEST)
Cool. We'll we will have to update this as we move along. Could you make a short paragraph in the skills article about the tier system? --Leord 15:27, 7 August 2009 (CEST)

Skill / Skill tree / Tier

Skill#Earlier_Info has a link to Skill_tree which has info on Skill tiers.

We could either split up Skill tree and Tier into two articles, or keep it on one page. I'm fine with either (leaning slightly towards one page; A lot of small pages tend to be harder to navigate). Pick your poison. --Vipermagi 19:33, 7 August 2009 (CEST)

I was almost thinking we should include all pages to one, like skills and skill trees really are very closely related. either that, or a lot more interlinking and some sort of navigation. That page would be pretty long though...
If we just try to summarize the quotes a bit (since wikipedia and other wikis don't really quote much anyway), it would make the article a lot shorter... What are your thoughts? As it is now, it's definitely a little bit too confusing. --Leord 11:32, 10 August 2009 (CEST)
Just dumping the info on both pages together would make a huge article, yes, but it would have a ton of redundancy too. The page won't be all that long once you remove all the duplicate information (that's another pro of having 1 page over several: Less repeated info :) ). Then again, when is a page long, and when is it not?
We could make one page in the userspace or wherever to see how long it'd be after removing all redundancy. It would also be a better page for format testing than the page the site's visitors read ;)
In the end I'm for one page and redirects to that page (and headers on that page if they work). --Vipermagi 13:58, 10 August 2009 (CEST)
Oki, I agree. You think you got tome to do it? My next major DW push will be skills again. --17:14, 10 August 2009 Leord
I have a lot of Tomes to do stuff ;) Will get to skill pages tomorrow. by the way.
User:Vipermagi/Skill and User:Vipermagi/Skill2. The first is done (unless there's information missing currently?), the latter is not (yet). --Vipermagi 21:15, 10 August 2009 (CEST)
Looks very good. We will implement it a bit later then. :) One thing I didn't understand: What's left to do? --Leord 15:12, 12 August 2009 (CEST)

I have deleted skill tree and made all info on it available on Skill instead. It makes more sense, who would look at "skill tree" for that info anyway? --Leord 19:03, 16 September 2009 (CEST)

Skill table

Power of the Battlemaster now just has a bulleted list of it's effect. The header is misleading though, as it promised a table. Ideas? --Vipermagi 18:19, 11 August 2009 (CEST)

Yes, that's true. The idea is to have a table there in the future, and a bullet point list is what we do before we have proper info. I'd say we keep the name atm. Just so it fits when it's all "upgraded" properly.
On a sidenote, don't write <void> on Description. Just write what is known. Look at the Boilerplate:Skill/copy article, and use that as inspiration. You can always write something. Also, a little blurb at the top of the page is good as well. Just take the Boilerplate:Skill/copy one, and replace class, skills, and then add a few words at the end of it :) This will also make sure to put the infobox underneath the ad.
You can also add "(presumed)" for rank 4 and 5 of the skill, like I did with many of the arcane skills. If you have 3 ranks info, then you can probably figure out the other ranks stats. --Leord 15:12, 12 August 2009 (CEST)

Im back, baby!

Hey leord, im back... was absent because there werent any juicy news about diablo 3, so i went away... im like a bear, i do my thing during specific times... Anyway i have a few suggestions, then im off to editing some articles and adding new ones...http://www.diablowiki.net/skins/common/images/button_sig.png

A: This wiki needs an IRC channel, hosted on quakenet, if possible, it would be much easier for editors/people to go to the channel, and ask questions there... like how to edit articles, or to report any mistakes that we might have made... please say yes

B: There is no B...

C: No C too...

-- 12:53, 20 August 2009 DxAxxxTyriel

Hey man, nice to see you! :) At the moment, we don't have a IRC channel, but some sort of chat will come up later on. At the moment, I am mostly in the #StarcraftWire channel on Quakenet! --Leord 16:54, 20 August 2009 (CEST)

Monk

Hey dude, you mind if i do the Monk Class? i saw the Diablo 3 panel and WoW:C panels on Ustream, from a guy who was streaming the Pay-per-view thing.... can i? i have many pictures. --DxAxxxTyriel 00:53, 22 August 2009 (CEST)

Dude! Bloody good job on the Monk! And never ask permission to do anything in the wiki ;) You are always free to do anything (except mupping up content, ofc)! --Leord 12:19, 24 August 2009 (CEST)

Thx mate. --DxAxxxTyriel 15:56, 24 August 2009 (CEST)

Meli back....

Hi Leord,

I am back to do updates to both Wizard and Monk, from the large news posts on diii.net which detail the full skill trees. Alot to throw out and alot to add. I will leave all the skill pages that are becoming obsolete for the moment just as they. Might be reuseable when they change skill setup again. Otherwise i am updateing all the related pages and also navigation boxes where needed.

Been fiddling with Witch doctor and Wizard already. Will take 1-2 evenings to get it all done though.

regards, meli --Melianor 13:57, 31 August 2009 (CEST)

Hello Melianor, great to see you! (and the great updates!)
Yes, we'll keep/make skills of the old skills, but put them in an archive of some sort later on, so don't set any of them for deletion! :) I will join you in editing in a few minutes ;) --Leord 11:34, 1 September 2009 (CEST)

FAQ

FAQ changed ever so slighty. You can reach it's old contents here. --Vipermagi 21:25, 3 September 2009 (CEST)

Weird. I know the /FAQ is some special page in the wiki, not a regular article... --Leord 17:45, 4 September 2009 (CEST)
Diablo III FAQ: this is the actual FAQ. the FAQ article is some sort of special Wiki thing. --Leord 16:15, 8 September 2009 (CEST)
I know; that's why I linked you to the &edit page, so you could access the old information. I didn't know wether you might wanted to transplant it :> The DIII Faq has the same information, though, so I suppose you don't need it anymore. FAQ is also unlinked beyond this page, so all is well. Redirecting it didn't work, sadly. --Vipermagi 16:33, 8 September 2009 (CEST)
Yeh, no I think I tried fiddling with it last year, and gave up, adding a new FAQ with another name :) If you find out how to make use of FAQ, don't be shy :P --Leord 17:13, 8 September 2009 (CEST)
I can tell you no other wiki I visit uses the FAQ page at all (page never created), and none of those have the odd plain text. Since I can't: Maybe try a delete? --Vipermagi 18:41, 8 September 2009 (CEST)
It will likely just delete the article I made. The thing is, the site obviously redirects the FAQ url to some other place than the actual article. I have no idea why. --Leord 20:08, 8 September 2009 (CEST)

Some Problem...

A fan class has been popping up in all the class pages. I removed the links, and think it's just a mistake on the author's path. Maybe some editing is the Class Template page. Please check it out.--TheWanderer 05:47, 25 September 2009 (CEST)

After LOTS of problems, I fixed it all. I left messages a little bit of everywhere to explain it :) --Leord 14:30, 25 September 2009 (CEST)

New Fanmade Content

Hello everyone!
I am a self-taught artist. I just signed in Diablo Wiki and I still don't know how to operate here. I was invited here by Targetgamer. I have many ideas about Diablo 3 and I have posted them in the Battle.net forums. Targretgamer read them and invited me here. As soon i get used to the tools here I will post my ideas on this site. In the meantime you can see my ideas in the battle.net forums. I have ideas in both Suggestions and Diablo 3 forums. Some people there think that I am a spammer, because my post are too long. I hope that people here will be more patient and read more of my ideas.
Here are some links

-- Veskin7 Bukito 20:34, 29 September 2009

OH, awesome! I am actually Targetgamer on Battle.net. It's my old Starcraft nickname, but I go by Leord on most other places.
First off, general ideas and stuff is hard to add to the wiki, unless they have a popular support. However, stuff like monsters, we can make a page for, that looks like an official monster, but is more like a fan idea. I did this with fan classes, which has turned out marvellous. So basically, we could make a Fan class out of the Dragon Warrior. Just go to Fan class:Dragon Warrior, where I pasted a standardised text you can help me fill out.
You have basically everything ready to go, so it will mostly be copy+pasting. The standard text uses Wizard mostly, so you need to replace any Wizard skill names etc with Dragon Warrior skills. Now, if you have any self-made concept art, check out the help page called Help:Image, and add them to the wiki.
The background of the class needs more breaks, so it's not just one block of text. You need more air in it. Also, since Lut Gholein etc are real places, and Abd al-Hazir really exist in the gameworld, you can easily link to them in the wiki! Just check Help:Markup for how to make links!
If you need help, myself and others are around. Just post a comment on my talk page, most people follow that. My idea is that when you made a proper Fan class out of the Dragon Warrior, we'll move on to the monsters, and we'll create a system to make fan monsters as well. That way you get a dedicated page with a good design on the biggest Diablo info database, and you can easily link it on Battle.net forums, or other Diablo fan forums.
It's good if you fiddle around a bit before we start making a new type of page though :) --Leord 13:23, 30 September 2009 (CEST)
Also! I just thought about that wonderful map you made. I doubt enough other people will make additional world maps to be an actual new section of the wiki, but what you can do is heading over to Diii.net, which is the biggest Diablo fansite, and posting it in their fan art gallery and in the forum. I know Bashiok has said he visits the page. Same with the duel system suggestion. You will likely get much better discussion than on Battle.net, where there is a lot of trolls. --Leord 13:30, 30 September 2009 (CEST)

Thank you!
Thank you, Leord! I am really happy that you appreciate my effords.
My goal is to make Blizzard create the things I've invented or at least get their attention.
I will we very grateful if you help me with this.
I will be able to edit the Dragon Warrior, but this will happen after some days. I actually am a fan without PC - I have played Blizzard games in internet clubs and I post my stuff from a friend's computer, but I can visit him per two days for just 3 hours a day. That's why I will ask you to edit the page if you don't want to wait for me. You can contact me on my E-mail /listed on my profile/ to receive further information about the Dragon Warrior skills and different skill tree names which I heve not invented yet.
I'll be in touch. -- 20:29, 30 September 2009 Veskin7 Bukito

Cool man :)
I am unfortunately busy doing other things at the wiki, but I did start up the Fan class program here together with Holyknight3000. I can help you with technical stuff, but the actual content you need to add yourself. How come you don't have internet? o.O
Nice to see you around anyway, and just leave a message here if you have any questions or concerns. If you finish off the Dragon Warrior, I'll make sure to create a nice template for how to make monster after! :)
Also, don;t forget to sign your posts. If you are unsure how, check out Help:Talk. ;)--Leord 11:43, 1 October 2009 (CEST)

I removed some of your links. Check the Dragon Warrior talk page. Also, I think you should upload the images. Check Help:Images for help, or ask me :) --Leord 18:30, 5 October 2009 (CEST)

Diablo3wiki.org

Actually I didn't start a new wiki. It was already there. And I already have contributed on that wiki alot. I kinda tried to ressurect it from the dead, but I think that the wiki is a lost cause. I'll gladly contribute to this wiki. And if you need the help to manage this wiki, you can count me in. I do have some wiki experience(most of it is style related).

I guess I'll just ask if they can delete/merge diablo3wiki.org --Fighterbitsj 23:20, 1 October 2009 (CEST)
Awesome! :) I am so happy! We're not that many wiki enthusiasts that also like Diablo, so it seems silly to split the effort. Also, the DiabloWiki.net has roots back to 1998, with old Diabloii.net's info pages. A lot here is on Diablo2.Diablowiki.net, and info has been around for a decade.
Lots of it needs a facelift though, and lots of D3 info that needs adding :)
I'd say you should try to get www.diablo3wiki.org changed to redirect to DiabloWiki.net, and then just leave the Diablo 3 wiki on wikia. If anyone else finds it there and start edits, perhaps we can add them to the greater project here as well, like Vipermagi and you!
I'll start looking through all pages on Diablo3.wikia and try to get anything I can, besides images. Perhaps you can do a second trip to make sure we're not missing out on anything good? Next job here in DiabloWiki will be to update all monster pages to make sure they all use the boilerplate, and also add monsters we have concept art of, but no names. Best to have them in here, and we can just rename them and add some info if Blizz release lore material for it. --Leord 11:44, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
Do you work with Stub categories here? Or is it just search and rescue? If it is the last one I can upload stub templates. It's a bit easier because all still to be edited pages will all be put in one category --Fighterbitsj 12:27, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
There is just one Stub type category here at the moment. If you would like to help out making the art of stubbing more advanced, that sounds like a lovely idea. Make sure to explain any new stuff you make on the Help:Stub page as well. Easier to tell people what is new with that.
I have been meaning to do a stub facelift for ages, but I've not had the chance. Also, Templates in general need to be better categorised etc. You can see my work at structuring the wiki on Help:Structure. :) --Leord 12:31, 2 October 2009 (CEST)

By the way, I looked through the wiki, and added a little info on the Deckard Cain article, and some other minor things. Good to know we got it covered. :) --Leord 14:23, 2 October 2009 (CEST)

Gameplan

Uhm maybe it's a smart Idea to copy some templates from wikia. Or at least look if we can use some, or just look for Ideas?? :P --Fighterbitsj 17:14, 2 October 2009 (CEST)

Yeah, sure, for ideas if nothing else. I'd rather look at Wikipedia for guidance, though... My main point here was more the categorisation etc. But feel free to do it however you want.
As for templates, they are currently working pretty good, we just need to increase more navboxes, and my point was if we should categorise the templates, not so much taking anything from Wikia. :) What do you think? --Leord 17:25, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
Well catogorizing them should be no problem. Since collecting+updating our wikicontent wouldn't be much of a problem. I'd like to look for new styles. Because the first think I see when I go to main page (it might be just me) is a big mess. Only when I take a better look I find info. So we need to do something about that. If you like I can try making a entire new Mainpage (or entire new skin). Not that this skin is bad, it's good.. in fact it is very good. But it still can be perfected. And I'd like to start helping this wiki by making it easy to read/easy to find/easy to see info. Tell me what you think of it/what your gameplan is. I'd probably tag in on ya --Fighterbitsj 18:14, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
Remaking it completely seems like a very big job for something that isn't sure to have a great effect. I know we currently lack good navigation as it is. What would you primarily like to change on the front page? --Leord 18:18, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
For starters? Less links. and maybe lose the how to help and/or the did you know part? That makes it a lot easier to read --Fighterbitsj 19:59, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
Personally don't mind the HtH/DYK? sections. I do agree on the links-to-text ratio. It's a big brick of links currently. Changing the skill tree lists to a small line or note like the following could work:
For information on character skills, check out the following pages:
*Barbarian Skills
*Monk Skills
*etc.
I'd be more inclined to read text than links myself.
On the other hand, I never use the main page (RC is my navigation tool), so I might not be the one to ask for help on organisation ^^" Meh, you guys decide what you want and I'll be fine with it regardless (unless you make it pink or blue). Just spouting ideas around randomly. --Vipermagi 20:08, 2 October 2009 (CEST)
What about
Character classes

Simplicity is the best. And don't forget: The Mainpage is your trademark... If it's F-ed up they think the wiki is F-ed up.

And for creating a new template we can also put that as a side project. When there is nothing to do... God bless boredom --Fighterbitsj 20:34, 2 October 2009 (CEST)

There are several advantages with having it there. It's easy navigation if you go there etc. The question is how much it's used. I took the idea from some other big wiki ages past. The thing is, I just got access to the top menus, perhaps we should just put it in there, with dropdowns for stuff, and put something like "How to find info" in the links section, pointing people up to the menu? In the meanwhile, I am going to finish off the last Wizard skills now. You're all very welcome to help out, just check the Boilerplate:Skill --Leord 16:30, 5 October 2009 (CEST)
There is a planned nav box for the left hand side which I was discussing with one of the other admins over the weekend. We were thinking of offering two skins. This one with some tweakage to volume of links and another with the main navigation being on the left, as is standard, both on the main page and within. This would allow us to take even more links off the body and leave that more for features. I agree the 'How to' could be trimmed right back, maybe even just to a small box with "How to help" and some essential links to orientate newcomers.
I like the 'Did you know' feature. As long as it has slightly more obscure facts I think people like it. --Elly 17:54, 5 October 2009 (CEST)
I think a more organized main page would be nice. When you think about it, a lot of the page is everywhere. yes it is organized, but i think a more improved main page would be nice, and whatever template/style you guys choose i think will be fine.--holyknight3000 07:24, 6 October 2009 (CEST)
If anyone wants to make some test main pages that are improved that would be helpful -- Elly 23:35, 6 October 2009 (CEST)

Plans Right Now

What we'll do for right now then, I think, is making the new menu changes to the top of the wiki, and see what rush comes up with for the classic skin. When we have that done, we'll see what the front page could need in terms of change.

In the meanwhile, it could be cool to hear suggestion on how to change the "how to help" section, and also perhaps list a good menu structure for the top of the page? --Leord 11:37, 6 October 2009 (CEST)

I just realized I made some notes on that:
We need a "Help Out" tab, with links to wanted pages etc, and also to help. Perhaps rename/remove Quick Links.
--Leord 11:40, 6 October 2009 (CEST)

Some suggestiond and one idea

Hey Leord, how are you? First I'm going to answer your question on why I have no computer and Internet - the answer is simple - poverty. I am a poor student that gets a scholarship of 60 euro per month. My parents have retired and get some pensions of 150 euro per month each. The money is just not enough to buy a PC. But we don't give up. My brother and I will econcmize money an after six months maybe we'll buy one computer. Until then I'm just gonna sit in Internet clubs.

I have a suggestion about the picture upload. Can you do this?: When you type <add picture> a dialog box appears and allows you to browse your computer and upload the file in the <add picture> location. Is it possible to be programmed? I am pretty sure that it is.

And the idea:

I wandered what to do so the efforts of the fans with the fan classes not to go in vain. And here is what I invented: Why don't we offer Blizzard to make an entirely new Diablo game called Diablo 3 Fan Edition? It will contain classes and monsters made by fans and there will also be an entirely new continent /Angarock/ for the story of the game, made by fans /me/. The contributing fans may do the beta testing and stuff.

What do you think?

--16:25, 6 October 2009 Veskin7 Bukito

Ah, sorry to hear about that, Veskin7 Bukito, and I hope it works out for you and your brother :)
Yes, it's easy enough to upload images, but you do it slightly different. Check out Help:Images. I have written the article to help people adding images. What you do then is almost exactly what you said. :)
Fan classes, fan art, fan fiction and all things created by fans will never be done in vain. It's an integral part of the community, and it's the kind of stuff Blizzard takes inspiration from when they create thing in the game. We can definitely ask them to make these classes in some special edition, but the primary reason we put them here is to tantalize and be fun for the community. The development time to even make ONE of these fan classes to a real hero is pretty big, and they would not do it unless they felt enough thousands of people would buy in to it.
They generally don't take entire ideas by people for their content, but are inspired. However, if the fan classes by fans are added here, they will be left on the internet permanently, and perhaps inspiring Blizzard in upcoming expansions or perhaps Diablo 4 some time in 10 years. :) The whole reason I started encouraging fans to add their work here is so that it should not have been done in vain. It will always be here, available for fans and Blizzard alike.
Never think all your work is in vain! You have shown that you have an open and active imagination, and is capable of writing. Perhaps your ideas will inspire Blizzard, perhaps not, but it's not that important, because you can create more!
Perhaps you should consider trying to write fan fiction based on Sanctuary, and the official world, or some short story about one of the countries in your Angarock continent? Either way, I think you should concentrate on making it as nice and detailed as possible, and available on DiabloWiki, so you can link it to people in the community or perhaps to friends on MSN etc. :) Give it a proper home, and make sure it's very nice and polished. :) --Leord 18:41, 6 October 2009 (CEST)

Re, image idea: It may possible, but it takes a lot of time to make it work without bugging up, and we'd need to find someone extremely skilled and willing. We're better off directing people to special:upload/help:Image. An image needs it's own page, so the script will have to:
  • Recognise the <add image> 'tag'
  • Pop up a window that only looks for .jpegs/etc. by default
  • Pop a window that asks for the page name*
  • Check if the name isn't taken**
  • Upload the image under the chosen name
    • Possibly add proper tags/categories
  • Replace <add picture> with the proper link.
*= If everyone uploads images without a descriptive name, it's hard to discern one from another. This also causes naming conflicts; When an image is uploaded to a name that is already used, it will override/remove the old image. This can be reverted, but it's a hassle.
**=An image database is usually not fully up to date. The wiki software is hardcoded to flush the lists (i.e. update) once a day. Since the list is most likely not up to date, it's possible the script doesn't notice an image name is taken, and thus uploads the image over the old image.
Additionally, the script will slow down page loading somewhat, which is more often than not unnecessary. --Vipermagi 19:01, 6 October 2009 (CEST)

Aha, now I understand :) Now we're not going to add such a script. Perhaps later, when other critical; things are fixed. --Leord 11:24, 7 October 2009 (CEST)
Writing such a script shouldn't be such a problem. But Viper is right what we need are a few people that script for this wiki. We have enough people to add the content (for the moment). I don't know if any1 here has acces to the scripts? But the person that you want to add those scripts should have it. And also Leord, if u want me to redesign some of the wiki parts (like the mainpage) maybe you should give me some rights as well?
The scripting: I think we should wait a bit with that. Untill we have the correct style and everything
P.S; the reason I don't react that often/update content atm is because I am a bit busy with school.. Will change in a couple of days --Fighterbitsj 22:52, 7 October 2009 (CEST)
edit: I'd also like to see a few functions on this wiki but like Leord said we first need to do the primary things and then think about the secondary things --Fighterbitsj 23:55, 7 October 2009 (CEST)
Awesome. As for the script specifically, I just can't see the need for it, and creating a new possible way for hackers to try and gain access to the site (yes, we're often under attack) isn't a positive either. Not saying anyone here would fail at the scripting, just saying the more ways there are to upload stuff or do ANYTHING on the server, the more possible security holes appear.
Good to know we'll see more of you soon, fighter :) --Leord 13:41, 8 October 2009 (CEST)

Let's do it!

Hey, Leord! The page of the Dragon Warrior is almost complete. I only have to add some skills and the pictures.

BTW can we proceed with creating Fan Monsters page?

And one more question: Do I create a new topic in the Battle.net forums called "Diablo 3 Fan Edition" and describe the idea and add links? I suggest there should be a vote for different classes, so Blizzard pick and create the best, and also a vote for creating Angarock. When I have more time, I will describe the idea thoroughly. -- 20:19, 11 October 2009 Veskin7 Bukito

Hello!
First off, you need to sign your talk page posts. Check out Help:Talk on how to do that :)
Secondly, I want you to understand that you will likely not get a great strong reaction from asking people about this, other than admiration from doing a great job. Most likely, Blizzard will not create new classes or continents 100% based on fan input. Among reasons include the legal one: If they would take your world, they would have to pay you copyright money. So. Instead, they will *possibly* take some inspiration from you, and other fan artists, and make their own stuff.
So, I really like the Fan Monster idea, and I'll get on it later today probably, but it will be hard to get Blizzard to use material created by fans.
Having said that, it would be really cool with a fan class contest! Like, people make Fan Classes on DW.net, and we decide a winner. Then, hopefully, Blizzard takes note of it, and perhaps incorporate some of those ideas in the game later on! However, it would be cool with some sort of prize then... --Leord 11:52, 12 October 2009 (CEST)

The Aurian Mage project

Hello, Leord.
I have been working on a new Fan class called Aurian Mage. I invented more than 30 skills for one night and the class is almost ready.
Can you please create a sample fan class page called Fan Class:Aurian Mage and add link to the fan classs category, just like you did with the Dragon Warrior?

Thank you.

Veskin7 Bukito 15 October 2009

Awesome! Oki, I created the Aurian Mage, and it's ready to go. Just remember to make a sub-page for any links you create, like on the Dragon Warrior. Meaning a Fan_class:Dragon Warrior/Skill Tree 1 for example. :) Mind you, I have added it to the Fan class category, but it's not visible in the navigation box until you're done. I'll make it visible as soon as you added your info :)
Also, you can easily make name + time stamp on any talk page posts you make by adding "--~~~~" at the end. When you press submit, the site recognises that string and replaces it with name + time + date :) --Leord 11:58, 16 October 2009 (CEST)
Another thing. When you're done, don't forget to make a post on Battle.net about it. I'll help you bump the thread there if you give me the url ;) --Leord 11:59, 16 October 2009 (CEST)

New Page

Can you please create a new page solely for linking to official trailers? I'm not sure how to do this. What I do is to create a link to that page, it shows up red and I edit it.:)--TheWanderer 01:10, 16 October 2009 (CEST)

P.S. I'm working on Dead end pages and Orphaned pages.--TheWanderer 01:10, 16 October 2009 (CEST)

Oh! Awesome! That is sweeeheet! Check out Help:New_article that I wrote :) Basically, you'll probably feel silly for not thinking of it yourself ;) --Leord 12:03, 16 October 2009 (CEST)

Copy from D2 Wiki?

I noticed that DW doesn't have some basic pages like Andariel, but these are there in D2wiki. Can I just copy the revelant info or should I stick solely to the info released by Blizzard?--TheWanderer 02:32, 17 October 2009 (CEST)

Stick to info released by blizzard. Things may have changed. Also most of the info on this week needs to be confirmed so u can't copy/paste from D2W --Fighterbitsj 12:51, 17 October 2009 (CEST)
Hmm, don't know. I'd say they would keep information/Lore canon; she won't suddenly be a male horned demon :P --Vipermagi 18:13, 17 October 2009 (CEST)

You can use any source anywhere, as long as any speculation is clearly stated as speculation. Sources from D2W are pretty reliable, so go ahead. Do link the source in the references section though! Also, if something is debated to be true or not, make sure to point that out as well.
In general, D2W is free to just copy. What you can do in addition to that is to check out what pages link to a certain D2W page, and change the link to a D3W page, or link to D3W for the lore. Just use Template:Iw (Article_name Article name - will look like this: Andariel. Since we'll keep the D3W more up to date on lore etc.
Also, don't forget to link back to the D2W page for stats etc --Leord 16:14, 19 October 2009 (CEST)

@Vipermagi: Blizzard has a habbit changing some parts of the lore so it would be easier for them to create "New" Things. --Fighterbitsj 21:47, 20 October 2009 (CEST)
Yes, that's why I made the retcon article ;) --Leord 11:18, 21 October 2009 (CEST)

Destruction of information

You seem to have made your previous talk page disappear entirely (as in, not even an archive). Was this your intention? --Vipermagi 17:50, 21 October 2009 (CEST)

With the new German wiki incoming, I accidentally deleted pages as I thought the wikis had been separated (try http://de.diablowiki.net/ which works, but is the same database as www). Restored it now, but lost history I think... --Leord 18:05, 21 October 2009 (CEST)
History is still there :> I initially thought you archived by deletion, to be honest. All's well and good again, anyhow :) --Vipermagi 21:58, 21 October 2009 (CEST)

About Fan Monsters

Hey, Leord, I have two questions about Fan Monsters:

1/ Is it possible to accept my form of monster description /the one shown in the battle.net forum/?

Here it is:

CLASS -Specify monster class - often met, rarely met, weak, tough, very tough, miniboss, boss or whatever else class you wish.

APPEARANCE - Describe how the monster looks - colours and other specific things.

SIZE - Specify the size of the monster - height/lenght and other specific things.

DESCRIPTION, BEHAVIOUR AND SKILLS - Describe the monster's behaviour, where is it met and its skills one by one.

SOUNDS - describe what sounds does your creature make.

DEATH - describe how exactly does your monster die.

ITEMS DROPPED - describe what kind of items does your monster drop when killed.

EXPERIENCE - say how much experience does your monster give when killed - few, medium, lots or whatever else you say.

2/ I think there is a mistake in your example when you tell us how to create a new fan monster in the Fan monsters category. You said that we should just type the name of the monster like http://www.diablowiki.net/Fan_class:Banana_Hammock . Maybe it should be

http://www.diablowiki.net/Fan_monster:Banana_Hammock ?

I just wandered if you made a mistake... Am I right?

--Veskin7 Bukito 01:06, 25 October 2009 (CEST)

Heya!
First off: The idea was to make the monster articles look similar to the REAL monster articles. Like for the skeleton etc. You can make the fan monster any way you want, but I would recommend just copying Boilerplate:Monster/copy, and using that as a template. If you need instructions on how to use it, check out Boilerplate:Monster.
Most of the headlines you mentioned, you can put as sub-headlines to the "Diablo II Monster" headline.
Secondly: Yes, that was a typo, I corrected it :)
-- 11:09, 26 October 2009 Leord

Fan Monsters Got Started

Hey, Leord, I just uploaded the first fan monster. Check out the Fan monster:Death Claw. Now you can update the Fan monster category by making a category box like the fan class category. I also found a solution about my form of monster description - I added the Death Claw Detailed Description in which I describe the monster my way. See if you can edit something in the Death Claw page...

--Veskin7 Bukito 21:29, 28 October 2009 (CET)

Hehe, it's actually the SECOND monster. You were beaten by the Brutal Beast by a few days ;)
Anyway, I have added your article to the navigation, and I cleaned it up a bit, removing sections, and hiding some. Remember to use the "copy" version instead of the main boilerplate. The copy version has everything ready to go, and sections not often used are hidden.
Other than that, looking mighty fine! :D --Leord 14:09, 29 October 2009 (CET)

New Search

Nice shiny new search bar! I like it! Works loads better. I left a message for you on my talk page.--TheWanderer 23:56, 2 November 2009 (CET)

Finally!!!

I have some spare time now.. So... Do you have any technical problems/issues/whatever you want fixed or technical things created? Want me to start making a new layout for the frontpage? Want me to create new templates etc. etc. Give me some orders and I'll check if possible then get it done if possible ;). I'll check your page tomorrow again. --Fighterbitsj 21:52, 8 November 2009 (CET)

Why start later?
Using: Template:The_Key_header as an example. Wouldn't it be smarter to catogorize it in Fanmade/Template:The_Key_header so it would show up as Fanmade/Template:The_Key_header in RC that would make it clear about who is deleting/editing what.
P.S: This site's lay out is f*cked --Fighterbitsj 22:01, 8 November 2009 (CET)
If you put the template in (Main:)Fanmade/, you would need to use to insert it on pages. That's obscure and weird if you ask me :P It's also moved out of the Template: namespace that way. Doesn't matter too much, but usually when looking for templates used in actual articles, you look in the Template: prefix-index, rather than that of non-existant articles (Fanmade does not exist (yet)). --Vipermagi 11:57, 9 November 2009 (CET)

Awesome! Nice to see you having more spare time. :) The Main Page is of course a quite sensitive topic, as it's just about the most important page on the wiki. If you have design ideas, just whip up a really simple sketch in paint or the like, and upload it for us all to see. What I'm saying it it's needs to be an open debate, so don;t spend too much time on any one idea before talking to the rest of us for input. :)
As Vipermagi points out, it would break the regular prefixes to use slashes in the name for templates. I know the categorisation of templates could use some work, but we're probably not going to change things too much. Also, we're likely not adding Fanmade or other prefix at the moment.
I'd very much appreciate if you were a little bit more specific with feedback if there is something (like the layout) that is to your disliking. Is there something actually bugged, or is it a general layout choice you dislike?
There's plenty of other things you can do that doesn't require input from the rest of us though! There are several monsters in the Diii.net's gallery that don't have their own monster pages for instance. Many of the current monsters and skills need pictures. We need to add more lore entries from the Diablo I Manual, Diablo II Manual, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction Manual etc. The Timeline can be filled out with mroe entries from current lore. We have factions, and ethnic groups etc, that really need to have a bit more clear category structure, and navbox etc.
I have just updated the menus of the wiki, so you can now find almost anything you want directly from the menu. Please help with feedback on whatever could be useful. Also, let's continue to discuss the new main page, but lets not lose focus on making the wiki's *content* the best on the net as well :) --Leord 12:14, 9 November 2009 (CET)
With layout I mean de links on the navigation boxes and stuff :P. Anyways I'll start with making a new lay out in paint. And I'll create a discussion topic for it. After that I'll check out the diablo II lore because I got the manuals here. --Fighterbitsj 10:12, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

D2 barb skills

I just finished doing images for the major barb skills ;) When you have some free time, check them out and tell me what you think! --Doomboy 5:15pm, November 8, 2009 (PST)

Oh man, that is fantastic! I love it, the pages look so much more alive now! Is the Monk skills next? :D --Leord 18:37, 9 November 2009 (CET)

Tomb Viper

Do you mind if I work on a wiki for the tomb viper? What kind of creature is it? Animal or Demon? --Butch Audacity 10:44 PM, Nov 8, 2009

No, go right ahead! :) Is that a real monster from the videos, or one you have invented? If it's a real monster, just class it as Demon, I think. There's no proper classification yet, so just go with what is most likely :) --Leord 11:55, 9 November 2009 (CET)
The Tomb Vipers are from the Blizzcon 2009 Demo. I tried making a page for the Tomb Vipers and I wasn't allowed to. Any suggestions? -- 04:16, 10 November 2009 Butch Audacity
Tomb Vipers. I added it for you, but it's very easy to create new articles. Also, it's great if you sign your posts on talk pages. I think you have in the past, so I might just be rude and point it out, but if you feel unsure, check out Help:Talk. --Leord 10:48, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

New Fan Monsters Added

Hey, Leord, how are you doing? I have added three more monsters to the fan monster category: Black Hand Mage, Dark Venom and Desert Cyclops.

See if there is something to edit on them and you can add them to the fan monster navbox.

What are you doing these days? Let's chat.

--Veskin7 Bukito 22:49, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey! I completely forgot to reply to this. eithe myself or someone else added your monsters to the navbox in either way. I'm fine thanks, doing work on the wiki and whatnot :) Yourself? --Leord 13:34, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Well I'm fine. Now I busy myself with some fan monsters and my newest project - a joke monster called Golden Pepper. This pepper is a special one - if you eat it, you will recieve a rare or unique item. Will add it as soon as I draw the picture.
In the meantime I'm still waiting for Holyknight3000 to put colors to some of my pictures.
And in the university I study in - The Ecology is fine. Now we are pretty close to exam session. Must study and write course projects.
P.S.
Yes it was me who added the new monsters to the navbox, now that I know how to do it, I will not bother you.
I will soon contact you for creating some new articles - "Fan Items" and "Fan characters and NPCs". But still not ready for these. --Veskin7 Bukito 19:32, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

.uuuhm

While Looking at the site (The navboxes in particular). I realised that this site could use some changes. So what I wanna do is the following:

  • Create a new Front page (Naming it something like /NewMainpage (can be deleted after I'm done).
  • Redesigning navboxes (naming the templates with things like /NpcNavbox2 and putting them on 1 page).
  • Let people think and consider if they want the old designs or the new designs.

Tell me what you think and if you're okay with it I'll start with the proces. --Fighterbitsj 23:03, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Hey, I forgot to reply to you too :)
First off, always create test pages on your user page, like User:Fighterbitsj/Main_Page. Good idea is also to link to it from your user page so you don't forget that it exists. :) Secondly, I'm not really looking to make a main page overhaul, unless you have something spectacular in mind. This is why I thought just doing a quick sketch in MS Paint or whatever to let me get an idea of where you were going was smart. Other than that, It's really only "Key Pages" that's planned to be changed now when most articles are presented in the top menus.
Navboxes are really meant to be properly redesigned using both parsing and some simple java scripts, so we can use "tabs" and the like. I'm not sure spending time on a redesign in the interim is a project well spent time on. Same there though, if you have an idea that makes tabbing of navigation obsolete, I'd love to hear/see it. Make a User:Fighterbitsj/Navbox page so we can see what you're thinking.
What we REALLY need though is improving lore pages. Regardless of if you know much about Diablo lore or not, it's usually not somethign that is required. Just open one of the manuals, look at a section, make sure any relevant words are linked up, and that any of those links include the info of that section. almost always there's a lot to add, be it new characters, locations or the like. You can also check the [Wantedpages], and add articles that way.
A second thing we really need is images. Loads of pages, like Lut Gholein could use mroe descriptive imagery, and especially the skills. All skills should have at least one image on them each.
So, basically, show us your ideas before you start spending loads of time into coding a main page or a new navbox, and let everyone comment on it, then go. In the meanwhile, there's loads of other work needing to be done in the wiki that is just as important. :) --Leord 13:45, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Sigh I'm having a little time out again since both my laptop and my desktop are broken (what are the odds of that??). --Fighterbitsj 14:44, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
Massive ouchness! :) Well, doodle a bit on a piece of paper on your planned designs, so you can do it quickly when you have access to a proper PC, or check out the manuals and look at the missing pages etc. Plan ahead ;) --Leord 15:05, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

OMG

Hey, Leord, what is that long menu that stretches from the sky to the ground in the wiki site? It's quite uncomfortable. I wonder if someone has edited the site without permission. What is happening?

--Veskin7 Bukito 19:33, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Server issues, I presume. That huge list is actually the discrete navmenu you see at the top :P It's back to normal for me now.
Additionally, I noticed this when it was a long list: link. Comw? Trying to navigate to that adress returns nothing, by the way (that could also be the problem: It couldn't find the server and thus exploded the style sheet). --Vipermagi 21:20, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Phew! It's back to normal to me too. Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
BTW My English is not good enough. I want to ask you: what is the plural of "mage"? is it "magi" or "mages"? --Veskin7 Bukito 21:48, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Either works (ex1: Mages of the Vizjerei clan, ex2: Skin of the Vipermagi). --Vipermagi 22:19, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
Hey guys! Yes, I did not know they were moving the domains this weekend. I would really have wished to be there to help out, but it seems all is working now, anyway. That "comw", is that still occurring? obviously a typo if so...
Also; Feel free to use "Mages" or "Magi" as you see fit. "Magi" is really a more "traditional" name, like you would find in old scrolls, and "Mages" is a more commonly used name that the average farmer would use :) --Leord 10:26, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Hehe, making redirects without the redirect pages show up in the front page Wiki feed :) --Leord 16:19, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Cleaned up special:doubleredirects; now it's filled with other redirects anyhow (which now work properly!) :D Sorry about that. --Vipermagi 17:11, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Cheers, very handy :) --Leord 17:14, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
You edit-conflicted me D: I was going to add "Random thought that popped up in my mind: Could the feed be filtered to only show non-minor edits? I've taped down my minor edit button since I don't make major edits often (more convenient to untick the box once every aeon to indicate a major edit than vice versa), so all but one of those edits would be filtered from the feed (it unticked for one edit, somehow). ", but I think I've changed my mind. Oh wait... ;) --Vipermagi 17:16, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Good point, I have no idea. I do the same thing. Sure, there's an error here or there then, when it IS a bigger edit, but something I can live with. It will be less errors this way. Is this a filter that's possible in a wiki? Otherwise it will be having to wait for a new page we were thinking of creating, listing wiki changes etc.
BTW, we REALLY need to be able to use images without them linking to themselves all the time. Did you know how to fix that? --Leord 17:20, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Well, in RC you can filter out Minor edits with a toggle (add &hideminor=1, or click the button in RC Options, second row). I have no idea how the feed works exactly, though, so I don't know what would and wouldn't work.
As for the images: Do you mean that the images are effectively hyperlinks to the image's page? I've seen a method to make the image link to the current page, but it's irreliable (it doesn't like namespaces much...); I'll ask around to see if there's a simple method that doesn't mess up. Do you want a brute image link disable (i.e. images simple never link), or a case-by-case application? I don't know if the former is possible, but who knows. --Vipermagi 18:01, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
Case-by-case was a rather obvious one: Wiki.png. --Vipermagi 18:09, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Testing Wiki.png. That's an amazing find! Must have been implemented in the latest upgrade Paul did. I remember trying it out before and it not working. That is bloody awesome! It was exactly what I needed! --Leord 12:41, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Bye!

Leord, thanks for making me feel so welcome during my time here. Due to an unfortunate encounter with Thyiad in the SPF, I won't be returning. Good luck with the wiki. -- 20:20, 29 November 2009 JMJimmy

Single Player Forum I suppose? From which site? I kind of assume you mean Diii.net, but why? Thyiad is not here on DW, and if you look at the main menu (perhaps you need Ctrl+F5), we've even removed that connection to Diii.net. We're linking all sites that help the wiki on the front page, which Diii.net is included, but we're our own wiki.
You have been a great help here, and it seems very silly to leave the budding DW community for something happening on another site... --Leord 10:20, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Problem uploading image

Hey Leord, I recently edited the Legacy of blood page and wanted to upload and image of the book cover however i encountered a problem. I either get: The file has no extension (like ".jpg"). or that i uploaded an empty file. But the file does have an extension (tried .jpg .png and .gif) and there is a file, I've tried several diffrent versions also (various sources including my own copy).Any ideas? --Zukker 15:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Does the path in the Source field have an extension, and does the Filename have the same extension? Additionally, when you receive an error and use the Back button in your browser, it's best to refresh the page to avoid problems. The wiki software doesn't quite like cached results ;) --Vipermagi 15:40, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply, Viper! If I was you, Zukker, I'd put in the code in the page first, save it, and then click the red link of the image to upload it. That way it's usually right. Just remember to have the file ending the SAME both for the actual file and in the code, like Viper said. Awesome job so far! :) --Leord 16:51, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Ah viper i'll try that. Leord thats exactly what i did and i ran into problems. Alright that didn't work either, the extension is the same and the filename is the same...i'm pondering why this won't work :( --Zukker 18:58, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
