Concept art for the Halls of Agony.
Halls of Agony location

The Halls of Agony is a dungeon area within Diablo III that was first seen in the Blizzcon 2010 demo. It is presumably part of Act I, but the name is likely subject to change. The area served as the starting location for players in the PvM demo. Based on the quest information provided in the demo, it is part of King Leoric's dungeon. The Halls of Agony were linked to another area: the Highlands Passage.

Theme/Style

The Halls of Agony dungeon has a distinctive, blood-red color scheme with a host of fiery elements. Metal grates along the floor emit a pulsing glow from beneath, as if embers were burning below. Some grates occasionally spew flames that can harm both the hero and monsters (see the associated images below). Furnaces are also found that have been built into the walls of the dungeon and serve as Monster Generators. Overall, the dungeon has the feel of a torture chamber - with various devices meant to cause agony (iron maidens, stretch racks, etc) strewn throughout.

Torture? Halls of Agony, indeed.

Quests

The quests that were featured in the Blizzcon 2010 floor demo seemed temporary. Nevertheless, the Halls of Agony had one notable bonus quest - to slay the Cultist Grand Inquisitor.
