An uber list of abbreviations, acronyms, and other terms specifically related to Diablo III. Some common online chat/forum usage terms are included as well, since they are frequently asked about. Many terms are linked to articles that explain them in greater detail.
This list will grow greatly once the game is released and players start to create more short hand references.

- This list does not contain terms that are specific to Diablo I or Diablo II and not Diablo III.
Numbers
- 1337 -- Leet as in 'leet speak'. Also "l33t." Originally meant as elite. Now usually used ironically.
- 10 chars - All posts made on the Diii.net forums need 10 characters to be able to be posted. If you see this, the poster is making up the numbers.
- 1H - one-handed weapon.
- 2H - two-handed weapon.

- A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 - Acts 1-5.
- AC - Armor Class. Also Defense.
- afaic - As far as I'm concerned.
- afaics - As far as I can see.

- afk - Away From keyboard
- Alvl - Affix Level or Area Level.
- Ama/Azn/zon - Amazon.
- Amu/Ammy - Amulet
- Andy - Andariel. One of the Lesser Evils. Act Boss of Act One in Diablo II.
- AoD - Area of Denial. The usual effect of an AoE spell, since it causes players to move out of the affected area, in effect denying them that portion of the screen.
- AoE - Area of Effect. A spell that targets an large area, dealing damage (or benefits) to anything in the vicinity.
- AP - Arcane Power, the Wizard resource that replaced Instability, which replaced mana.
- AR - Attack Rating.
- AS - Arreat Summit, the level or Battle.net's official website for Diablo II at Blizzard's site.
- ASAP - As soon as possible.
- Asn/asa/assy/sin - Assassin.
- ATM - At the Moment.
- ATMA - A Tenshi Muling Application, which is a single player muling utility, that includes a very useful drop calculator.
B
- B.net/Bnet - Battle.net. Blizzard's game server for Diablo II.
- B/O - Best Offer. Used in trading items.
- Baba/Barb - Barbarian.
- BB or bb -Short for Bye Bye
- BBL - Be Back Later
- BBS - Be back soon
- Big D/Big Red - Diablo (the big Prime Evil in person).
- BIN - Buy it now. A fixed price, no negotiation.
- Blk - Block.
- bm - Bad manners. Indicating a PvP ruleset.
- BoA - Bind on Account. Items that can be shared between different characters on an account, but can not be traded away from that account. See also BoE and BoP.
- BoE - Bind on Equip. Items that can not be removed without being destroyed once they are equipped. Only in Diablo III. See also BoA and BoP.
- Boost - also tush or turbo. To use a higher level character to help a lower level one advance very quickly through the game, usually in order to gain greater rewards at a later point.
- BoP - Bind on Pick-up. Items that can not be dropped or traded once they are picked up. Only Quest items will be BoP in Diablo III. See also BoA and BoE.

- chippies - chipped gems.
- CI - Cold Immune.
- CL - Chain Lightning. Sorceress lightning tree attack skill.
- Closed - Closed Battle.net. Online play with Battle.net-only characters.
- Clvl - Character level.
- CM - CM has multiple meanings in regards to gaming and Diablo games:
- Community Manager (like Bashiok).
- Community Member (like you!).
- CO - Current Offer, related to trading.
- Combo - A type of multi-hit Monk skill.
- Coop/Co-op - Cooperative play, playing with others in PvE mode.
- CP - Checkpoint. The save points reached at the start of most dungeon levels in Diablo 3.
- CR/CRes - Cold resistance.
- Crit - Critical hit or critical strike. A blow that deals double damage + other effects, depending on damage type. May occur with all damage types in Diablo 3, while it was only from physical damage in Diablo II.
- CRM - Colour Rune Mod - Single Player utility that turns runes any colour.
- CtC - Chance to cast.
- CTH - Chance to Hit.
- Cube - The Salvage Cube. Refers to the Horadric Cube in Diablo II.
- CU - Cursed, a debuff.
- Cya - See you.

- D - Diablo
- D2 - Diablo II
- D2C - Diablo 2 Classic.
- D2X - Lord of Destruction Diablo 2 expansion.
- D2M - Damage to Mana
- Dam - Damage
- DC (D Clone) - Diablo Clone.
- DD - Don't die
- Def - Defense
- Desynch - refers to desynchronizing with the server. That way, you appear to be somewhere other than your actual location on the opponent's screen. It is usually done by some form of very rapid movement. Note that instant movement (such as teleport) won't do this, and will in fact resynch with the server.
- DEX - Dexterity.
- DL - deadline in a trade EG DL10 = 10 hours before close
- dii - , also Diii.net. Diabloii.net. Longest running Diablo fansite.
- diii, also Diii.net. A D3 reference and forum site.
- ding - Player announcing they've just leveled. (For the sound effect that's heard.)
- ding - Sound of a ring/amulet dropping. (Mostly used in Diablo I, where that sound was very distinctive and thrilling.)
- DIS - Desperately in search of
- Dmg - Damage
- DOH - Durance of Hate
- DOT - Damage Over Time.
- DPA - Damage Per Attack.
- DPS - Damage Per Second.
- DR (DR%) - Damage Reduced. Items with this mod reduce physical damage.
- Dropping (of items) - The act of entering a game to present any player in that game with items as freely given gifts, to be distributed among the players in the game as they see fit.
- DS - Deadly Strike.
- dupe - an item which has been duplicated.
- Durry - Duriel
- Dvd - Damage versus Demons.
- Dvm - Defense versus missiles.
- Dvu - Damage versus Undead.
- dweb - deaths web unearthed wand.

- ED - Enhanced Defense. A mod that increases defense on an item.
- ED/IAS - Enhanced Damage/IAS. Typically refers to a rare combination of mods on a jewel.
- EF - Extra Fast.
- eg - exempli gratia (Latin). Used to mean 'for example'.
- EIAS - Effective Increased Attack Speed.
- ENE (ENG. ERG) - Energy.
- ES (e-shield) - Energy Shield. Sorceress lightning tree defensive skill.
- ES - Extra Strong.
- ETF - European Trade Forum.
- Eth - Ethereal.
- exp - Experience.
- Eye (EoE) - Eye of Etlitch Unique Amulet.
- EZPK - easy player kill, killing another player usually by ambushing them.

- FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions.
- FB - Fireball. Sorceress fire tree attack skill.
- FB - Fire Bolt. Sorceress fire tree attack skill.
- FBR - Faster block rate.
- FCR - Faster cast rate.
- FD (FDam, FDmg) - Fire damage.
- FE - Fire enchanted.
- FHR - Faster Hit Recovery.
- FI - Fire Immune.
- Flaming - Making a personal attack or insulting remark, intended to incite anger.
- Flavie - Single player reporting system that uses ATMA information and reports what sets/uniques/runes/gems the player has.
- Fpa - Frames per Attack.
- FPS - First Person Shooter, a game genre like Doom or Quake.
- FPS - Frames Per Second (command needed /fps).
- FR (FRes) - Fire Resistance.
- FRW - Faster Run/Walk.
- FT - For trade or Fast Trade (BIN) depending on realm.
- FTW - for the win.
- FWIS - For what it is worth.
- FYI - For your information.

- gfi - Go for it.
- gg - good game. Standard response to your opponent after a PvP duel. Can also mean "good gear."
- Gj -- Good job.
- Gl -- Good luck.
- Glass cannon - A character that is very powerful (cannon) but not very durable (glass). This term most often refers to mage characters who deal out huge damage but die easily.
- gosu - godly or awesome. Very good.
- Grail - players attempting to find at least one of every set item and unique item in the game. Usually associated with single player because of ATMA.
- grush - glitched rush, where an attempt to rush a low level character has gone awry.
- GS - Ground Stomp, A Barbarian skill from the Juggernaut Skill Tree.
- gtg - Good to go (or Got to go)
H
- H -- Hell. Third and last difficulty of Diablo 1 and 2.
- Hack -- (v) To cheat or use exploits in a game. (n) A program that enables such cheats.
- HC -- Hardcore. One death and game over.
- HCMTF - Hit Causes Monster to Flee.
- Hork(ing) - Using the Barbarian skill Find Item on corpses of slain enemies can yield items, dubbed horking for onomatopoeia reasons.
- Hot -- Warning that a portal or waypoint is dangerous to enter due to monsters crowding around the other end.
- HP -- Hit Points.

- ID - Identify.

- KA - Kick ass (very good).
- KB - Knockback.

- L - Ladder. (Usually seen in trade Forums).
- l337 - Elite.
- LAEK - Life After Every Kill. An item modifier.
- LCS - The Lying Character Screen. The Diablo 2 Character window was notorious for displaying incorrect information. It's hoped the Diablo 3 character screen will be more accurate.
- LD - (LDam, LDmg) - Lightning damage.
- LE - Lightning Enchanted.
- LEB - Lightning enchanted boss.
- Leech - (noun) One who leeches. (Experience or items from other, more active players. Usually a derogatory term)
- Leech - (verb) Life or Mana steal. Expected to be very rare in Diablo III.
- Leeching - Gaining experience by standing around and letting others fight (rather than actually playing the game).
- legit - legitimate item, not a dupe.
- LEM - Lightning Enchanted monster.
- LHC - ladder hard core.
- LI - Lightning immune.
- LL - Life Leech.
- LLD - Low level dueling. PvP dueling characters at a pre-set level to limit their equipment choices and skill options.
- lmao - laughing my ass off.
- LoD - Lord of Destruction. The Diablo II expansion. Also referred to as D2X.
- LOL - Laughs out loud.
- LotL - Live off the Land. A play style in which characters use only items they find themselves, and do not purchase anything from NPCs.
- LR - Lightning resistance.
- LS - Locust Swarm, a Witch Doctor skill from the Plague Skill Tree.
- LSC - ladder soft core.
- LTB - Looking to Buy.
- LTT - Looking To Trade.
- Lvl - Level.
M
- Max - Maximum.
- MB - Mana Burn.
- MD (MDam, MDmg) - Magic Damage.
- Meph - Mephisto. Brother to Baal and Diablo and one of the three Prime Evils. The Act 3 Act Boss in Diablo 2.
- Merc - Mercenary.
- MF - Magic Find.
- MI - Magic Immune.
- MiC - Meet in Channel (also MiP).
- Min - Minimum.
- ML - Mana Leech. Unknown in Diablo III.
- MLD - Mid Level Duel. Characters used for dueling at a set maximum level to limit their skill and equipment use. See also vLLD and LLD.
- mlvl - Monster Level.
- MM - Magic Missile, a Wizard skill from the Arcane Skill Tree.
- Mod - Modifier. Adds a characteristic to an item such as a weapon or charm.
- Mod - Moderator. A member responsible for moderating a forum or channel.
- Mod - Modified game version of Diablo 2. (allowing varied game play of an old favorite)
- Moron - Merc or Mercernary.
- MP - Multi-Player.
- MP - Mana Points.
- MPK - Mana per kill
- MR - Magic Resistant.
- MS - Multi -Shot. A mod available to boss monsters.
- msg - message.
- MSLE or MSLEB - Multi -Shot Lightning Enchanted. Extremely dangerous combination of boss mods in Diablo 2, prior to v1.10.
- Mules - characters used to store extra items
- Muling - moving items from one character to another for storage or onto a character to be used. Either mules or ATMA (D2 single player only).
N
- N00b - Newb. Nub. Newbie. Newcomer to the game. (generally used as an insult).
- Nat's _______ - Piece of Natalya's Odium set. Made for the Assassin.
- nbd - No big deal.
- NDE - Near Death Experience (when a character JUST manages to escape a very dangerous situation).
- Necro - Necromancer.
- Nerf - Generally refers to spells or weapons that have their effectiveness reduced in a patch.
- Newb - Newbie. Newcomer to the game. (often used as an insult).
- NG - New Game/Next Game.
- nking - naked killng. IE killing someone retrieving their body.
- NL - non -ladder (also NLSC, NLHC [see HC, SC#2]).
- NM - Nightmare. The second level of difficulty in Diablo 1 and 2.
- Nm (nvm) - Never mind.
- Norm - Normal. Usually refers to the first level of difficulty in Diablo II.
- No -Twink (Untwinked) - No-twink groups and players use and equip only what they find specifically with that character, rather than bringing in items, usually much higher level items, found by others.
- NP - No Problem.
- NPC - Non-Player Character.
- Nr=Nt or NRNT - No Response means No Thanks.
- NRG - Energy.
- NTC - No Title Char for acquiring SoJs in classic CS.
- NTPP - New Traders Probationary Period. See SPTF Rules for details.

- OMG - Oh my god.
- Open - Open Battle.net. Online play with characters saved on your computer. Diablo 2 only.
- orgset - organ set.
- os - open socket.
- OT - Off Topic.
- OTF - Off-Topic Forum.
- OTOH - On the other hand.
- OW - Open Wounds (more used than 'wounds'). A special modifier that may or may not return in Diablo III.

- Pally - Paladin
- Parked/parking - having a monster follow you to a certain point and then runing away fast enough to leave it there
- PC - Price Check. This means they want to know how much something is worth.
- PD (PDam, PDmg) - Poison Damage.
- PDR - Physical Damage Reduction.
- pdsc - Poison damage small charm.
- 'perm - a FAKE way of making a duped item not poof. They don't work, don't ask
- perm a game- holding a game open for five minutes so it says there when you leave. Often used for muling.
- PG (PGems) - Perfect Gems
- pi - physical or poison immune
- PK - Player killing. Usually associated with ambushing players to kill them. A form of PvP not to be confused with dueling. PKing is not possible in Diablo III, since there is no PvP option in normal games.
- PKK - Player Killer Killer. A player who kills player killers.
- PMH - Prevent Monster Heal.
- poof - have an item disappear.
- Porter - Teleporting Boss.
- Pots - Potions.
- PR (PRes, PsnRes) - Poison resistance.
- Proc - "Process"/"Special Procedure. Means chance of a skill or item effect to be activated under certain circumstances.
- Psn - Poison.
- Purist - Characters who only use items they found themselves. No trading, transfering of items from other characters, or Magic Finding.
- PvE - Player versus Environment. Also PvM.
- PvM - Player versus Monster. Also PvE.
- PvP - Player v Player combat. Dueling. Not to be confused with PKing.
- PW - Password.

- QFT - Quoted For Truth; what s/he said is correct.
- qlvl - quality level.

- r - Ready. This is the standard signal among players in a group before triggering a monster urn/shrine or entering a treacherous area.
- R/W - Run Walk
- read - usually in trade games. e.g., "UM 4 read" means for details read the description
- Rec - Recovery.
- Regen - Regeneration.
- Rejuv - Rejuvenation Potion.
- Req - Requirement.
- Res - Resistance.
- rl - Real life (the messy and often unpleasant world found away from the computer screen).
- Rlvl - Required Level.
- RMT - Real Money Trading. Selling game items for real world cash money. Prohibited by Blizzard and generally frowned on by gamers.
- ROFL - Rolling on the floor laughing.
- RQ -Used to refer Hellforge quest.
- RtM - Read the Manual.
- run - to repeatedly kill monsters in a certain area or a boss in an effort to find items. (Usually done with magic find.
- Rush - Also turbo or taxi. To use a high level character to assist a lower level character(s) in moving quickly through the game.
- Rushing - A low level character getting pushed through levels of the game by a much higher level character, where the lower character could not play effectively alone.

- SC - Soft Core. Non-Hardcore characters.
- script - descriptions, usually in trade games, e.g., "UM 4 script" means for details read the description.
- SD - Shadow Disciplines. One of the Assassin skill trees.
- S/E - Save and exit. Usually to avoid an untimely death. Considered poor form in some circles, usually Hardcore.
- Sec - Hang on a second.
- Single Pass - going through the game without re-running an area.
- slivering - taking a moster down to the bare minimum of health before killing, usually with some other weapon for greater magic find benefit, or to let another character get the last hit (such as while rushing) to give the lower level character the kill credit.
- Slow - Slows Target. Item mod that slows enemies.
- Slvl - Skill Level.
- SoJ - Stone of Jordan Unique Ring.
- Sorc - Also Soso, Sasa. Sorceress. D2 character.
- SP - Single Player. Usually refers to single-player mode.
- spdc - small poison damage charm.
- Spec - Spectral Hit.
- SPF - Single Player Forum.
- SPTF - Single Player Trade Forum.
- SPoints - Skill Points.
- S/S - Sword/Shield.
- SS - Stone Skin. Wizard skill.
- ST - Slow Time, a Wizard skill.
- Stam - Stamina.
- Storing - Transferring items from one in-game character to a character not in game.
- STR - Strength.
- Strat - Strategy.
- Synch - refers to synchronizing with the server, thus going back to normal. Can be done through instant movements (teleportation, waypoints, portals) to defeat a desynched state.
- Synergy - Skills that directly boost or are boosted by points in other skills. Very common in D2.

- TC - Treasure Class. Organizational system for item spawning.
- TE (Tele) - Teleport. A Wizard skill.

- TG - Town Guarding. Hanging around outside town to kill anyone coming out. See PK. No longer an issue in Diablo III.

- T/O - Top Offer. Used in trading items.

- Transferring - Interchanging items between characters, including activites referred to as muling, twinking and storing.
- Trolling - Making provocative, controversial or offensive remarks, intended to create a confrontational response. Usually found in forums.
- ttyl - Talk to you later.
- Twink/Twinked/Twinking - To give high quality items to new characters, usually other characters on your own account. Twinking is the process of doing this. Twinked refers to a character who has been so equipped. Twinking is most often done to brand new characters to make the leveling up process easier, but the term also refers to equipping high level characters with great items they haven't found themselves.

- Uber -- Awesome, Ultimate, Elite. Often used ironically.

- Uped (Up'd. Upd) - Upgraded version of the item. Achieved with the Horadric Cube. Normal ->Exceptional ->Elite

- VIT - Vitality.
- Vlld - Also vLLD. Very low level dueling, usually level 9 in Diablo II. This greatly limits the skills and equipment that can be used, and simplifies the dueling experience somewhat. See also LLD and MLD.

- WB - Weapon Block. An Assassin Shadow Disciplines Skills.

- WD - Witch Doctor.
- Weap - Weapon.
