Diablo 2 Pain Worms are like Lampreys, in that they are weak, worm-like creatures created from dead monsters. However, unlike Lampreys, Pain Worms can only be created by the death of a monster which has been cursed by another monster, the Putrid Defiler.

Lamprey were first seen in the WWI 2008 gameplay movie, and have not changed much since.
