Background[edit | edit source]
Diabloii.net was created by Elly and Rush, and was born in 1997, as an updated, Diablo 2-themed version of an earlier page that had focused on Diablo I and Hellfire. Writer and content contributors Flux and Gaile joined the effort in 1998 and 1999, respectively, and along with numerous contributors from the community, built what many fans considered to be the best single-game website on the Internet.
Diabloii.net grew hugely busy during the early 2000s, when Diablo II and its expansion were popular, and the site maintained a high popularity all through the 00s. Diabloii.net staff were invited over to Blizzard North, and as a sign of how important the site has been for the community, Elly, Flux and Gaile are also featured in the Diablo II expansion as Mercenaries.
Gaile later moved on as a Community Manager over at ArenaNet, taking care of GuildWars.
In mid-2008 the site was redesigned and upgraded, and reborn as Diii.net, with a primary focus on Diablo III.
This article is a stub because someone with intimate knowledge of the site should write this article. Help by expanding it. |
Diii.net[edit | edit source]
In spring 2008, everyone believed the next game to be announced at the Blizzard WWI in Paris would be Diablo III, and spirits were high. In June, the site got it's first major facelift in a decade, and upgraded it's name from Diabloii.net to Diii.net, a friendly hint to fans of the site, who used to call the site "Dii.net".
With the new site a much easier way to add news was added, and a CMS that allowed for guest authors. The forums got new Diablo 3 subsections, and the whole community shifted gear a in anticipation of the third Diablo game.
Diablo: IncGamers[edit | edit source]
Although Diabloii.net has always been part of the IncGamers family, the move over to the main domain had been delayed. In November 2009, the site moved over to it's new home at Diablo.IncGamers.com
Content[edit | edit source]
The Diablo: IncGamers site is renowned for its diverse and plentiful information. Much of the Diablo II info became the base on which DiabloWiki.net was created. Even with most of those information pages now gone in the new version of the site, they live on in the wiki, and the site still holds a massive guides library, image gallery and forums as well as articles and columns.
News[edit | edit source]
Diablo: IncGamers is likely the most active news feed for Diablo-related news available. Often several news items per day and the full list on the front page is completely refreshed in a day or two. The extended list seldom reach a week backwards.
Articles[edit | edit source]
Over the years, numerous articles have been made on Diii.net.
Columns[edit | edit source]
It's always been an honour for a selected few authors to be given the opportunity to write columns on Diii.net. Some of them include:
Images[edit | edit source]
The art and screenshot gallery of Diii.net is one of the biggest on the internet. It's very useful to find new Diablo III art and screenshot as well as material from Diablo II and Diablo I. The gallery also keeps a lot of pictures from events, Blizzard HQ as well as fan art, wallpapers etc.
Video[edit | edit source]
Videos relating to Diablo can be found both on the main video site for IncGamers as well as Diii.net's YouTube channel.
- IncGamers.tv
- YouTube Diablo: IncGamers
- YouTube Diiinet (older, defunct)
Community[edit | edit source]
With a big community comes big forums. One of the main features of Diii.net is of course their massive forums that serves all the Diablo games, trading and guides.
Forums[edit | edit source]
- Diablo 3 Forums
- Diablo 2 Forums
- Diablo 1 Forum
- Diablo 2 Trade forums
- Diablo 2 Strategy and Guides Forums
- Diablo Lore and Story Forum
- Diablo Fan Creation Forum
Blogs[edit | edit source]
If you want to create your own Diablo blog, you can do that in the Diii.net Diablo blogs section.
Hosted sites[edit | edit source]
Diabloii.net has hosted many sites in it's history. This is a list of a few of them:
- The Dark Library - A fan fiction website (offline).
- ATMA - "A Tenshi Muling Application" (single player muling).
- Holy Knights of Westmarch - A stout Paladin-only guild from before the turn of the century. [1]
Staff[edit | edit source]
The staff at Diii.net is made up with a lot of dedicated individuals who are die-hard fans of the Diablo franchise and action RPG games, as well as general Blizzard-fans.
Main Admins[edit | edit source]
The famous three who makes the site spin. While Rush & Elly often are doing things in the background, the site would crumble and die without the support of this trio.
- Rushster - Administration and some coding.
- Elly - Adminstration, and the last hand on any significant site change.
- Flux - Main news editor and article writer.
Editors & Columnists[edit | edit source]
The editors and columnists on the site helps to create material and keep the community alive, or finds the groundbreaking news Diii.net is known for.
- Holyknight3000 - Fan creation community manager & moderator for Diii.net and DiabloWiki.
Many more columnists have been honoured to write for Diii.net. Feel free to help us fill out the list.
Moderators[edit | edit source]
A large group of individuals have been promoted for their enthusiasm in Diii.net's community to be made moderator for a forum or subforum. Without these wonderful people, the forums of Diii.net would be as messy as those on Battle.net.
Feel free to help us fill out the list.
