Orlif was one of the fifteen mercenaries under the service of Captain Kentril Dumon in the novel Diablo: The Kingdom of Shadow.
Background[edit | edit source]
A group of Westmarch mercenaries escorted Quov Tsin the Vizjerei Sorcerer in his quest to find the fabled lost city of Ureh located near the Mountain Nymyr.
Orlif was one of the mercenaries, along with Gorst, Brek and Jodas to accompany Captain Kentril Dumon to climb to the top of Nymyr in search of the missing Key to Light and to place it back at the top. Lord Juris Khan offered a King's reward to all who helped him place the key there.
It would allow ethereal Ureh to return to the mortal plane.
Orlif's Fate[edit | edit source]
Later on, Jodas and Orlif talked to Lord Juris Khan to announce the remaining six mercenaries wanted to leave to return back home at Westmarch.
Orlif and the remaining six mercenaries suffered an ill fate. As they reached the gates of Ureh to depart, the illusion of the cheering people of Ureh disappeared and instead hordes of dry husks for bodies with a gaping hole for a mouth surrounded them and stripped their face and body skin with their maws. They died by hungry unliving men who ate the mercenaries' flesh.
Orlif screamed Albord's name, the only one of the mercenaries who decided to stay behind in Ureh with his Captain Kentril Dumon. Albord ran back to the gates of Ureh to find out why his name was called by Orlif. All he could see was hundreds of dry husked unliving men feasting on pieces of flesh. Orlif managed to go over the crowd to look at Albord. The flesh of Orlif's face and arms was stripped and bleeding. He was eaten alive by the unliving men.
