Locating items once they're dropped is easier in Diablo III. In addition, items lying on the ground have a special glow that's color coded to the item's quality. Magical items glow blue, rares glow yellow, etc. This can help a lot on a busy dungeon floor after a battle, with the spooky glows coming up here and there, amidst the monster bodies.
