Skill organisation[edit source]
Nice skill overview updates you made! I'm planning to make each skill into an individual page in the not too distant future. We need to make a good "boilerplate" for them.
Do you know what a wiki template is? I was thinking of making one template for each spell, and then simply link them back to the main skill page, meaning we'd have:
- Class skill article
- Class Specific Skill Tree article
- Skill article (one for each skill)
...and all this without being too much work. Please help me figure out how to do this. --Leord 12:01, 19 November 2008 (CET)
- I have not worked with Wiki templates yet, but i have seen such beiing used here already. This would be interesting indeed. The boilerplate concept is quite much of a must :) Sorry if i am slow in response, but work has been hard in the last days. I saw with Teleport, that you have already started with single skill pages. Now what can be done by my to help out here. I have to get a grasp of the wiki template thingy first, which should not be a problem. I am also willing to start filling those skill pages :) --Melianor 21:51, 26 November 2008 (CET)
Notes by Leord[edit source]
Unlike the skill trees in Diablo II, the trees in Diablo III are not focused on just one aspect of a character. All known D3 skill trees have a wide variety of skills, with more passive than active, and all allow for a variety of play styles. --Leord 11:50, 27 August 2009 (CEST)
All active skills in the BlizzCon 2008 build were capped at 1 rank ("skill levels" in D2), while most passives went up to 15 points. This has since changed as both active and passive skills now allow 5 points, in most cases. --Leord 11:56, 27 August 2009 (CEST)
- Tier 2 Skills
These skills were available for use once a Barbarian reaches level 5. There is no requirement that he invest 5 skill points in this tree before using them, as some early Blizzcon reports erroneously stated.
- Tier 3 Skills
These skills were available for use for any Barbarian who is level 10+, and has placed at least 10 points in other skills in the Berserker skill tree.
- Tier 4 Skills
These skills are available for use once a Barbarian reaches level 15+, and has spent at least 15 points in the Berserker skill tree.
- Tier 5 Skills
There was a space for these in the Blizzcon build, but no skill icons were found on that line. There will surely be some in the final game, or else existing skills will be redistributed so some occupy higher level tiers on the skill tree. --Leord 12:11, 27 August 2009 (CEST)
The fact that town portals are seemingly out puts a much greater emphasis on character performance than previously, which means the players must be given tools to survive without TPs. This includes both active and passive defensive skills, where the former are more interesting because they require more interaction from the player.
From what I can see, the devs seem to be going the WoW:WotLK route and adding tons of active skills with certain requirements, skills that are on short timers and require the player to really pay attention to use them before the timer runs out. This is a good thing because it breaks the monotony of using skills that are “always” available and rewards player skill and awareness.
(Moonfrost's quote)
- Strong Constitution
I assume it’s 18 health as in a percentage of your max HP or whatever, otherwise the skill won’t scale at all. Doesn’t seem any different from “replenish life” in D2 and we all know how popular that affix was.
--Leord 19:06, 27 August 2009 (CEST)
- WD skills
No passive skills have yet been revealed in this skill tree, but by comparing these skills to the known trees and skills for the Wizard and Barbarian, some educated guesses can be made.
Passives will probably boost the damage/hit points of the mongrels, or of all summoned pets, assuming there are others further down this tree. The explosive damage of a Sacrifice (Mongrel or other unknown minions) could also be boosted, as could the duration and damage of the Zombie Wall.--Leord 14:35, 2 September 2009 (CEST)
New Skill Page Functionality[edit source]
I just finished the Barbarian skills page update, making it an integrated part of the individual skill tree pages: Berserker Skill Tree, Juggernaut Skill Tree and Battlemaster Skill Tree. If you edit Barbarian skills (or the Wiz, Monk and WD ones that will be done soon) that edit is actually taking place on the individual skill tree pages. Please consider this when editing the skill tree pages or the class skills pages. Ask here if you have any questions! --Leord 14:38, 21 September 2009 (CEST)
