Set Dungeons were added to the game in Patch 2.4 in January 2016. They are special, custom-designed dungeons that each correspond to a particular class Item Set by characters geared in the corresponding item set. Groups may attempt them, but if one person fails an objective, it invalidates the whole run. Credit might not apply to all who run, more tests are needed. There are 24 set dungeons, one each for the 24 item sets, 4 per class.

Set Dungeons are non-random in layout and difficulty, (the difficulty of the particular game does not affect Set Dungeon content), and each presents a specific challenge. Players must complete the dungeons within a short period of time (4:30) while achieving several objectives. These always relate to the Item Set that dungeon is themed around, and require things like: killing all enemies or all elites with the special skill of that set, not running out of resource, maintaining a buff for at least 90 seconds, etc.

Set Dungeons are tricky, but not risky. The monsters are not very high level (corresponding to about Torment 4) and dying in a Set Dungeon (even in Hardcore mode) simply fails the challenge and resets the player to the dungeon entrance. Players can attempt the same Set Dungeon repeatedly, in the same game, until they triumph or give up.

The reward for completing a set dungeon comes in the form of achievements, rather than any radical drop of gold or items. There is also a special banner sigil unlocked with each completed set dungeon, and finishing suites of them may result in additional achievement awards.

When all the monsters are defeated, a window pops up with the details of the run. A portal out of the dungeon is then opened. If the player uses a town portal inside the set dungeon, the return portal will place them back at the entrance portal to the dungeon, allowing for quick resets.

Finding Set Dungeons
Character who are geared out in all six pieces (or five + RoRG) of any of the 24 class sets can enter the related Set Dungeon if they find the entrance. Once a character is wearing gear with the six piece set bonus, a monster may randomly drop a lore book giving a hint about the location of the entrance to the appropriate Set Dungeon. (Or a player can always get the lore book via the Tome of Set Dungeons.

These lore keys are not required to enter -- players don't click the lore to open the portal or anything like that -- and the lore clues have no purpose or value other than as interesting tidbits.

Each of the 24 Set Dungeons has an entrance in a set location, and can only ever be entered in that spot. The Set Dungeons reset after each trial, and can be attempted repeatedly in the same game.

Set Dungeons: Full List
Each character class has 4 set dungeons, one each for their 4 class Item Sets.

All dungeons require the two objectives to be completed without taking fatal damage. Dying will fail the dungeon, but not cause normal death penalties, including not permanent character loss for Hardcore.
* Lore:
* Location: Act II, Road to Alcarnus

Set Dungeon of the Marauder
Location: Act I, Wortham (near chapel)
* Objectives:
** Kill 200 monsters without taking fatal damage.
** Do not exhaust your Hatred.
** Maintain a Rain of Vengeance for 90 seconds.
*** This requires the player to constantly shoot enemies with their Hatred Generator, in order to reduce the cooldown timer on RoV so that it can be recast before the duration of the effect expires.

Set Dungeon of The Shadow's Mantle
* Objectives:
** Kill 118 monsters without taking fatal damage.
** Slow 45 different enemies with your Shadow Power.
**
*** This means the player must hit 20 different monsters with 20 straight Impales. (A buff counter counts up on the tool bar.) Any missed throws, or Impales that hit the same monster twice (consecutively or not) breaks the chain of 20. With 5 chains required and only about 118 monsters in the entire dungeon, this is quite a challenging task.

Set Dungeon of Unhallowed Essence
* Lore:
* Location: Act II, Howling Plateau
** Hit 20 enemies with a single Multishot. (0/6)
** Never exhaust your Discipline.
Players will need to do some herding to gather enough enemies into a tight knot to hit at least 20 of them six different times.

Monk Set Dungeons
Set Dungeon of Inna's Mantra
* Location: Act II, Flooded Causeway (via the Caldeum Baazar)
** (0/5)
** Do not get Frozen.
There are upwards of 340 enemies in the dungeon, giving ample targets to group up before casting the Mystic Ally.

Puzzle Ring is a legendary ring that can be found in Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls. This item can be found and equipped by any class.

The Smart Drop system ensures that this ring will usually roll with the mainstat appropriate to the class that finds it. Rings are considered an offensive item, and most players insist upon bonuses to Critical hit Chance and/or Critical hit Damage, while seeking mainstat as well.

Puzzle Ring properties
This item has one of the more creative legendary affixes in the game. It summons a Treasure Goblin who follows your character around, picking up white items. Every 12-16 items (number set when ring first rolls) he'll drop a rare item, or occasionally a legendary item.

The goblin looks just like a normal goblin but as a pet it can not be targeted or attacked. It makes all the usual goblin sound effects, chuckling and giggling and most players find it amusing, though occasionally confusing as they mistake it (visually or audibly) for a real goblin.
Puzzle Ring Evolution
The Puzzle Ring has changed repeatedly since Diablo 3's launch, on a lengthy journey to become the useful item it is today.

Diablo 3 Classic version
The ring was present in Diablo 3 from the start, but never had much use in the Diablo 3 vanilla version of the game. Like all legendaries below level 60 it was only useful around the level it dropped at, (31 for this item) since legendary items didn't scale up in level prior to Loot 2.0. Furthermore, the ring required the goblin to pick up 40 white items to spawn a rare or legendary, which took forever, even with the much higher white item drop rates in D3v.

(That said, white items had zero use at that point, since white materials weren't in the game, so the goblin would eventually scrounge up 40 of them if a player played through most of an Act in one game. The ring was only level 31 so not usable on a character in the end game, but the ring worked if equipped on a Follower.)

The items the Goblin dropped were set by the difficulty level the player was in. This was before scaling difficulty levels, back in the days of 4 tiers of difficulty that had to be replayed to progress. The level of the items the goblin dropped was set by the difficulty level, with no regard for which Act the player was in.

* Normal - lvl 13<br>
* Nightmare - lvl 35<br>
* Hell - lvl 53<br>
* Inferno - lvl 61

The Puzzle Ring in Loot 2.0
The Puzzle Ring was one of the legendary items previewed in late 2013 when the developers began talking up Reaper of Souls and the improvements they had planned for legendary items in Loot 2.0, and the changes to the stats excited players.

Not long after that the Reaper of Souls beta began, and there players got to try out the Puzzle Ring. There were problems since Blizzard hadn't updated the ring to match the new game version. Loot 2.0 changed drop rates for everything, and made white items much less likely to drop, essentially limiting them to armor racks. And even if white items could be found, players needed to pick up them up and salvage them for white materials, which were required in most crafting recipes in the RoS beta.

A beta tester commented on the ring in December 2013.)

::I had one of those rings during the first week of the beta, wore it while leveling up my Crusader, and never did get the item to proc. Finding 40 white items in the live game wouldn’t be a problem, but it’s very different in RoS or on the PTR. 1) total item spam and especially white items are *way* reduced in Loot 2.0, 2) you actually want to pick up white and gray items to salvage them, since most of the new legendary recipes require huge stacks of common materials, and 3) with all crafting materials BoA you have to find them yourself.

Reaper of Souls post-release buff
Blizzard lowered the number of items required from 40 to (12-16) when Reaper of Souls launched, but the ring still had some other issues, which were addressed in a patch in May 2014.)

<blue>The Puzzle Ring goblins have been scouring Sanctuary for better loot to drop:

* Legendary drop chance doubled
* Rare items dropped will now always have six affixes
* The counter for picking up normal-quality items will now persist through death, act transitions, and un-equipping the item
* It still will not persist across game sessions
* The goblin will now play a sound when its counter reaches max and it drops an item</blue>

Many players want more fixes; a visible counter of how many items the goblin has grabbed, and a more visible sight when the goblin drops the item, and those may come in the future.

The Puzzle Ring in the Cube
Putting a Puzzle ring in Kanai's Cube and clicking Transmute will open a portal to the Vault.

Greed's Domain (AKA The Vault or the Treasure Vault) is a special dungeon area added to Reaper of Souls in Patch 2.1. It was first seen on the PTR when Patch 2.1 testing went live, and created great player excitement.

To enter the area, simply kill Treasure Goblins. Once in a while one of them will leave open a yellow portal when they die, which the player can then pass through to enter Greed's Domain. It's a small area of unusual design with a single winding staircase that moves down to a central arena where the boss fight occurs. Along the way players will meet various trash mobs, several Treasure Goblins, and many smashable urns and crates, all of which spit out tremendous sprays of gold.

After winding down several elevated levels, players reach a large circular platform, where they encounter Greed herself. Her formal title is Greed: Baroness of the Treasure Realm. Defeating Greed causes a super-sized golden chest to drop from the sky. When opened it spawns tremendous riches. PTR results showed dozens of huge stacks of gold, plus multiple rare items and legendaries.

Items, including legendary items can be found in The Vault, but the guarantee is a huge amount of gold. Over 500 million can be scooped up on Torment 6 with Gold Find gear on, but even on low difficulty levels tens of millions of gold will be obtained, mostly from the destructibles and the final massive golden chest.

Designed as a Bonus Area
The Vault is meant to be a reward and a fun bonus find, rather than a life or death challenge. The developers spoke about the design theory in a live chat in late August, 2014.

<blue><font color="#FFFFFF">Nevalistis: One new area we’re adding in the patch it something we call “The Vault.” How cool is it? </font>

Wyatt: I think it’s super cool and I hope everyone gets a chance to see it. For those who haven’t already, it has to do with the Treasure Goblins. If you kill a Goblin there’s a small chance that you get to open up a portal to enter the Realm of Greed. And it comes from the idea of where Treasure Goblins go when they get away. We’ve got to put something in for that, and I’m pretty excited about it.

<font color="#FFFFFF">Nevalistis: I haven’t seen it yet on the PTR. Maybe I’ll get on this afternoon and hunt some more.</font>

Wyatt: It’s not designed to be a hard area. We weren’t going to give players this rare chance to get into the area and then WE’RE GOING TO KILL YOU!!1! *laughter* That’s not cool. It’s more of a celebration event. Gold is raining down everywhere, there’s treasure. We just wanted it to be a fun run around. The boss’ mechanics are focused on being interesting rather than deadly. There’s some humor there. We just want people to enjoy it. Not struggle with it. </blue>

Finding The Vault
It can be found by killing Treasure Goblins. One way fans have found is to repeatedly run the Halls of Agony level 2, in Act One. There is always a Treasure Goblin somewhere on that level, and early reports are that about every 15-20 tries, he'll pop the yellow portal to Greed's Domain.

Alternatively, transmuting a Puzzle Ring in the cube will also open the golden portal in town.

Kanai’s Cube (the KC or Cube) was added Patch 2.3, It harkens back to the Horadric Cube of Diablo 2, giving players the ability to convert or break down legendary items and gain bonuses from their special properties.

The cube is obtained from the Kanai's Throneroom located in The Elder Sanctum within the Ruins of Sescheron in Act Three. This area was added to the game in Patch 2.3, along with the Cube, and is found only in Adventure Mode. Players need not complete a quest or bounty to obtain the Cube; just find the area (which requires some exploration, as it's not marked on the map and the Ruins are large)

Using the Cube
To use the Cube, players must first obtain it from the Ruins of Sescheron in Adventure Mode. Simply locate it there and click on the cube and it will automatically add to your account. The Cube is not a physical item you see in your inventory, and the only way to access it is by clicking the cube, or Zoltan Kulle standing beside it, in town.

* Ingredients for the Cube Recipe must be placed inside the cube (drag and drop or right click); it will not pull them directly from your inventory or stash the way Blacksmith or Jeweler crafting does.
* All ingredients must be correct; recipes will not work if they are short an ingredient. Extra ingredients will be left in the cube, and then returned to you when the UI window is closed.
* Stack amounts do not matter; players need not insert exactly a 50 or 100 stack. Larger stacks are fine and the recipe will subtract the required amount from the total stack in the Cube.

The usability of the cube wasn't great when it began testing on the PTR, and players often complained about having to run to their stash, pull out the materials required, run to the Cube, insert them, etc. Common requests were to make the Cube pull items from the stash as needed, or to make the Cube part of the stash or the basic Inventory interface, as the Horadric Cube was in Diablo 2.

Extract Legendary Power
This recipe destroys the legendary item and adds its legendary affix to the cube, enabling a character to enable that power through the cube and enjoy it without equipping the item. This can be done on any legendary or set item with a legendary affix (shown in orange text). Only that orange text power is extracted, not any other properties from the item, and the cube always imparts the property at its highest possible roll.

Archive of Tal Rasha

Reforge Legendary Item
This recipe rerolls any legendary item, completely resetting all stats as if the item had just dropped for the first time. The odds to roll Ancient are 1/10.

Law of Kulle
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Upgrade Rare Item
This recipe allows a player to turn any level 70 Rare item into a random legendary or set item of the same type. Items purchased from vendors or gambled can be used, as well as found from drops. Best used on items that are expensive to gamble, like Amulets, or to hunt for specific legendary weapons, such as two-handed maces to attempt to create The Furnace.

Hope of Cain
* 50 Veiled Crystal (yellow material)
:<br>
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Convert Set Item
This recipe changes a set item into another random item from the same set. Intended to help players get that 5th or 6th item to complete a set when they keep finding the other items in the set, but not the one they need.

This recipe was overpowered when the recipe went live, with very low material costs of just 10 Death's Breath and 10 Forgotten Soul. The easiest exploit was to use it on two-item sets, such as the Focus/Restraint rings, where the item would just change from one to the other repeatedly, making it very easy to roll until a perfect item was created. Blizzard vowed to modify the recipe to stop such easy rerolling the first day the PTR testing began, and in the first PTR patch they changed this recipe to only work on sets of three or more items. Items produced from this recipe will never be ancient.

Skill of Nilfur
* 1 Set Item
* 10 Death's Breath
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Remove Level Requirement
This recipe lets players entirely remove the level requirement from any item, just as the Gem of Ease does when socketed into a weapon. Of little use to Softcore players, but this will make twinking even easier for Hardcore players, who could put an entire six piece item set on at level 1 and play through the entire game on Torment 10, going from 1-70 in just minutes.

Work of Cathan
* 1 item (any type)
* 1 Gem of Ease, rank 25 or higher.
:<br>
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Convert Gem Type
This recipe lets a player convert 9 gems into any other type of gem. It can be used on any level of gem, but only in quantities of 9. Gem Essences are purchased from Squirt the Peddler in Act Two, for 500,000 gold each.

Darkness of Radament
* 9x any gem (same type/quality)
* 1 Gem Essence (of the gem type you want)
* 5 Death's Breath
:<br>
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Convert Crafting Materials
This recipe lets players convert 100 of any type of crafting material (white, blue, or yellow, but not Death's Breath or Forgotten Souls) into 100 of white/blue/yellow material. This is helpful to offset imbalances in material quantity, such as a player who has many more Veiled Crystals (yellow) and wants to convert them into blue or white materials for crafting purposes.

To craft, insert at least a 100 stack of the materials you want to change + 1 item (white, blue, or yellow) of the quality you want to change the 100 materials to. For instance, 100 Veiled Crystals + 1 magical item = 100 Arcane Dust (blue). You do not need to insert exactly 100 stack into the cube; any stack larger than 100 the game will automatically subtract 100 from.

Anger of Iben Fahd
* 100 stack of white, blue, or yellow material
* 1 item of the quality (white, blue, or yellow) you want to change the materials to.
* 1 Death's Breath
:<br>
:--fragment of the Dark Exile Scrolls.

Portal: Not the Cow Level
An undocumented recipe, this one opens a portal to the Not the Cow Level, a bonus area first introduced for Diablo 3's third anniversary. Only one per game.

* 1 Bovine Bardiche (legendary polearm)

Portal: The Vault
An undocumented recipe, this one opens a golden portal to Greed's Domain, a bonus area where fabulous golden riches await. Slaying Greed is the only way to obtain a first Boon of the Hoarder legendary gem each new season. (Once one has been found, additional Boon of the Hoarder gems may drop from Rift Guardians, same as other Legendary Gems.

Only one portal to The Vault may be opened each game, so if one is found randomly from a Goblin, this recipe can not be used in that game. (Presumably using this recipe means no random Goblin will open one out in the world, either, though this is difficult to verify.)

* 1 Puzzle Ring (legendary ring)

Kanai's Cube History
The initial details came from Blizzard's Patch 2.3.0 preview on June 23, 2015:

<blue>New Artifact: Kanai’s Cube

Those who played Diablo II might remember the Horadric Cube, a unique device which allowed you to combine items. Useful as it was, it was easily surpassed in power by the item from which it originated, Kanai’s Cube. In Patch 2.3.0, players will be able to discover this powerful ancient relic and utilize its incredible potential, including the ability to break down Legendary items and equip their special effects as passive skills (which are separate from your other passive skills), convert crafting materials from one type to another, and so much more.</blue>

Additional details were added in a reply by a community manager:

<blue><font color="#FFFFFF">How many passives can we use at same time? Does it take a passive skill slot to equip?</font>
Tyvalir: There’s been some confusion about how these passives work, so let me clarify.

With the current plan, the passives you get by breaking down Legendary items with special effects in Kanai’s Cube do not replace passive skills on your character, but are instead part of a separate set of passives that are specifically stored within the cube. You can store as many special effects as possible in the cube, but only a limited number can be active at a given time (currently, this is three: one weapon effect, one armor effect, and one jewelry effect).</blue>

Theorycrafting Kanai's Cube
The concept of adding three "free" legendary powers thrilled the community, and theorycrafting ideas flooded forth. A few of the main ideas:

* Getting the RoRG property from the Cube grants much more item variety while still getting six-piece set bonuses. (Which is a big buff since the RoRG stats are generally much worse than other rings.
* This partially fixes the "Ancient weapon problem" since players can add the special legendary property from the ultra-rare weapon required for their build without having to find that item in Ancient form.
* Defensive buffs abound:
** Wearing an immunity Amulet + getting a second immunity from the Cube.
** Gaining CC immunity from Ice Climbers.
** Gaining full time double Unity buff without having to wear the ring.

In practice on the PTR, almost everyone just went for more damage. The Furnace for a weapon (or Calamity for Demon Hunters), Convention of Elements or RoRG for jewelry, Cindercoat or Hexing Pants for armor, etc. While there were some more unique choices for some classes and builds, the overall approach was pretty generic. Whether players will evolve more interesting builds over time, or if Blizzard will intentionally create some interesting item synergies that can only be enabled with the Cube + equipped items, remains to be seen.

Lore and Story
Blizzard shared much of the lore and story behind Kanai's Cube in a blog preview in July, 2015.

<blue>The precursor to the well-known Horadric Cube, Kanai’s Cube is a powerful artifact containing immeasurable transmutation power. Originally simply known as “the Cube,” the Horadrim created it as a tool to aid them in the Hunt for the Three. However, its creation was marred by dark methods and disastrous results, resulting in the order quickly determining that it was too dangerous for anyone to continue using. Creating the weaker Horadric Cube in its stead, they entrusted the first Cube to a secret organization of barbarians on Mount Arreat, who kept it safe from everyone, including the rest of their tribe.

Throughout the years, these barbarians served as guardians over the Cube, keeping it safe from prying eyes and those who would use its powers for evil. The last of these guardians, the great Chief Elder Kanai, perished when the demon lord Baal destroyed Sescheron during the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. The barbarians have always believed their warriors must be put to rest on the slopes of Mount Arreat but, after the destruction of the Worldstone and the mountain that housed it, Kanai’s spirit was unable to rest. Now doomed to stand eternal vigil over his home and greatest treasure, he awaits a powerful and honorable individual to whom he might pass on his task.</blue>

Kevin Kanai Griffin
The object is named after a former Blizzard artist on the Diablo 3 team, Kevin Kanai Griffin. He passed away in 2014 and the cube gained his name as a reminder of his work on the game. The Barbarian King Kanai seen in-game near the cube, in physical and ghostly form, is modeled after Kevin's own Barb's transmog look.

<blue>Not Just a Legend, But a Tribute

There is more to Kanai’s Cube than lore and functionality. While we always knew that we wanted to implement a form of the Horadric Cube into Diablo III, we never anticipated the events that would lead to it becoming Kanai’s Cube.

Kevin Kanai Griffith was a beloved member of the Blizzard family and a longtime Diablo fan. He joined Blizzard as an artist on the World of Warcraft team in 2005 and his work can be seen in the Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Mists of Pandaria expansions, as well as the World of Warcraft trading card game. As the Diablo III team came together, Kevin joined and made his mark on the original game, crafting a plethora of diverse and moody environments that you’re certain to recognize.

Kevin continued producing gorgeous environments and Diablo holiday art throughout the launch and beyond the release of Reaper of Souls. You might also remember him from footage of his Diableard being shaved live on stage at the 2011 launch of Diablo III, his Artist’s Stage Demo at BlizzCon 2013, or our second anniversary livestream. He was always an active member of the community both inside the company and out, whether it was by organizing weekly sketch groups, or encouraging his friends to team up and play games together. Kevin was an amazing mentor to everyone around him and a wonder to work with: you couldn’t help but get passionate and pumped about your job when he was in the room.

Tragedy struck in February of 2012 when Kevin was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer known as Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma (ASPS). Kevin kept his spirits high throughout the grueling treatment process and continued to work on Diablo III as much as he was able, pioneering environmental features such as the weather and night/day cycles experienced in Adventure Mode. Though he fought valiantly, we lost our coworker and dear friend on October 17, 2014. His spirit and legacy will always live on in the many games he’s touched with his stunning art, as well as the hearts of every individual who had the honor of knowing him.

We miss you, Kevin. This Cube is for you.</blue>

Blizzard also created a video that describes the cube and memorializes its namesake.

<youtube>V0dluBgUqsI</youtube>

Changes for patch 2.4.0
The following information was discovered while testing the Cube in the 2.4.0 PTR.

With the launch of the 2.4.0 PTR there are changes worth noting. Items with updated primary stats can be reforged. Items with updated orange affixes can be extracted. Items with new orange affixes can not be reforged or extracted from the 2.3 item versions.
The PAGENAME is a harmless monster type first found in Diablo 3. Goblins (or Gobbies) are found randomly scattered around the dungeons and Rifts.

Goblins are stationary when first spotted, and will always be found standing by an open portal to their escape realm. Once activated by a player moving near or hitting them with a spell or projectile, the Goblins will activate and run away. They are humorous creatures, constantly giggling and screeching, running erratically while dropping gold or items, and pausing to open a portal and attempt to escape if they go several seconds without being hit. Goblins will escape through the portal if left alone for too long, and if killed they will loot fountain much like a golden chest. (Different types of Goblins were added in Patch 2.1.2 and Patch 2.2. and may drop materials, blood shards, or gems, instead of gold/items.)

Goblins do not attack players or deal any damage, but they often create dangerous situations by leading pursuing players into fresh enemies. Goblins are classified as "Demons," and are "Unique" enemies, with purple names and non-random properties. As Elites they take extra damage from +Damage to Elite modifiers, and killing a Goblin will reset the bonus timer on the Bane of the Powerful Legendary Gem.

The official description of the Goblin:

<blue>He'll randomly and rarely appear in dungeons, but when he does you'll want to beat the candy out of him as he'll drop progressively better loot with each hit. Don't let him escape!</blue>

Goblins are generally found one at a time, though certain community buffs have caused them to always spawn in pairs. Players will rarely encounter a large group of 6-12 goblins of the same type, in a Nephalem Rift.

Treasure Goblin Types
Diablo 3 debuted with just the one basic type of Treasure Goblin, though their drop rate and item quality was buffed and their AI tweaked in patches. Reaper of Souls made no initial changes to Goblins, but Patch 2.1 added the bonus treasure land Greed's Domain reached only through a Goblin portal and Rainbow Goblins, Patch 2.1.2 introduced four additional types of Goblins. and Patch 2.2 three more.

All types of goblins (except Rainbow) may open a portal to Greed's Domain, the Treasure Vault level.

The following types of goblins are found only in Reaper of Souls, and not in regulation Diablo 3. All except for the Rainbow Goblin are only present in Adventure Mode, but no goblins can be found in Greater Rifts.

# Rainbow Goblin - (Rare find)
## Drops loot like normal treasure goblin
## Leaves open portal to Whimsydale, the "secret" area.
# Blood Thief - (Purple-colored Goblin)
## Drops Blood Shards while running, and multiple stacks of Blood Shards upon death. He does not drop any gold or items.
# Odious Collector - (green-colored Goblin)
## Drops crafting materials of every type and color, except orange crafting materials
## May drop orange legendary or green item set crafting plans. Blacksmithing specific drops only. No gold or gems.
# Gem Hoarder - (diamond-skinned Goblin)
## Drops only gems while running and a huge stack (20-25 gems) upon death.
## Gems are of the same quality as monsters/chests drop at the level, thus at level 70 (the maximum in Reaper of Souls) the gems are about 90% Marquise and 10% Imperial.
# Malevolent Tormentor - (dark brown tinted Goblin)
## Drops gold and items when he runs, has a short range teleport when fleeing, and drops more and better quality than a normal goblin.
## Players will usually get a legendary item from his item fountain.
# Gilded Baron - (Gold-colored goblin)
## Just gold, and lots of it!
# Insufferable Miscreant
## Spawns with minion goblins that run interference/distraction
## Drops better quality than a normal Goblin.
# Gelatinous Sire
## Splits into 2 or 3 smaller versions of itself when killed, and those split into 2 or 3 again
## Ends up with 7-9 tiny GS goblins, all of which move quickly and drop like a normal goblin when killed.
# Menagerist Goblin
## Will drop a vanity pet that your account has not already got

All types of Goblins can be found one at a time, in normal games, only in Adventure Mode (except for the Rainbow Goblin, who can also appear in Campaign mode). In Nephalem Rifts, players will not find any Rainbow Goblins, but the other types of Goblin will sometimes very rarely be found in large clusters of 6-12 (sometimes 10 - 20) which creates wild scrambles as the Goblins scatter in every direction, dropping loot as they run.

Escape Portal
Goblins appear with their portal open, as an aid to seeing them. Once activated by a character hitting them or moving into close proximity, Goblins will run, and if they stop and are not touched for several seconds they will open the portal again, and jump through it if they remain undisturbed for around ten seconds.

The time the portal stays open before the Goblin leaps through will grow shorter each time the goblin opens or the longer the battle runs -- Goblins must be killed quickly or else they will escape.

Goblins have been made easier to kill since they debuted with Diablo 3, and made to pause longer before escaping. They may even go back into their resting mode if activated and then left undisturbed without any characters nearby, and will wait indefinitely until they are encountered again.

Through the Portal
Goblins not in a Rift will sometimes leave a golden portal behind when they die, granting players in the game access to Greed's Domain, a treasure level full of gold and gems. This portal to The Vault occurs randomly; it is not affected by allowing a Treasure Goblin to live longer, or trying to kill a Goblin just before it escapes through the portal it opens during the combat.

Rainbow Goblins are a special type of Treasure Goblin that may leave open a rainbow portal that takes players to a bonus area called Whimsydale, which is identical in size and layout to the rainbow-themed Whimsyshire easter egg level. Whimsyshire vs. Whimsydale are not the same level -- players who enter this portal and Whimsyshire the normal way in the same game will clear out two different areas -- but the monsters found there and the rewards earned are effectively identical.

As of Patch 2.1.1, the new types of Goblins, the Blood Thief, Odious Collector, Gem Hoarder, and Malevolent Tormentor, may also leave open a golden portal to The Vault just like a normal Treasure Goblin. The secret level is the same in all cases, and the portals opened by the new types of Goblins are the same golden color, though fans have suggested their portals should be palette shifted to match the color of the different goblin types.

A New Diablo III Monster
The Treasure Goblin was first revealed in the playable demo at Blizzcon 2010. The developers were clearly proud of their new addition to the game, making numerous jokes about chasing and "beating the candy" out of the Goblin.

The initial version of the Goblin, seen pre-release and then in Diablo 3 vanilla, was harder to notice since he did not show up on the map, didn't stand beside and open portal, made no warning sound, and the text window messages about "engaged an Elite" didn't yet exist in the game. Goblins could also activate while still a long distance from the player, and were often hit accidentally by ranged attacks or sought out by Followers. These factors often caused players to miss goblins, or not notice them until they saw the trail of gold, too late to chase after the Goblin that had dropped it.

Goblins also moved faster and paused less often during the combat, and had a much shorter delay before they opened their portal and then hopped through it.

Since the initial version of the game every aspect of Goblin hunting has been relaxed. They are now much more visible with a map icon, give out a warning sound when players draw near, pause more often during the chase, wait longer before vanishing through their portal, go back to a sleep mode if they run away and are not pursued, and so forth.

Inspiration
The Treasure Goblin seems to have taken its inspiration from the Golden Axe video game series, where between levels the players would sleep in a camp, and be awakened by thieving goblins with large sacks of loot over their shoulders.

Another likely influence was The Thief character seen in arcade classic Gauntlet, a small chuckling character who raced around the dungeon and would steal power ups from characters who didn't kill him in time.

Lore
The story info about Goblins was initially provided by Abd al-Hazir in a Lore entry heard when a Goblin is first encountered.

::"Some devious little goblins have been robbing our merchants! When pursued, they simply open portals and disappear with a most aggravating chuckle. The peasantry seem to believe that the goblins serve a great demon lord known as Greed and furthermore, that their portals lead to Greed's domain! A ludicrous notion, truly."
<div style="text-align:right;">Abd al-Hazir</div>

This lore was expanded on post-Reaper of Souls release, when The Vault bonus area was added, a golden portal to which only goblins can create.

Blizzcon 2010 Crafting Sanctuary Panel
The Treasure Goblin was briefly discussed during the 2010 Blizzcon Crafting Sanctuary Panel, where the developers urged players to "beat the candy out of him" if and when we spotted the little guy. They also presented a wanted poster with his face on it; a useful presentation since it's tough to get a clear look at his visage in the actual game.

Most players assumed the Goblin was was humanoid; like a twisted old man, but judging from the wanted poster he's some sort of demonic rat-like creature.
Legendary items (including Item Sets) found prior to Patch 1.0.4's big item buff are called legacy items. These generally have much lower stats and bonuses than current versions of those same items. Legacy and current sets do not generate partial set bonuses when equipped together, and legacy set items have different names so players can keep them straight.

* Objectives:
Any missed throws, or Impales that hit the same monster twice (consecutively or not) breaks the chain of 20.

* Objectives:
Any missed throws, or Impales that hit the same monster twice (consecutively or not) breaks the chain of 20.

Set Dungeons were added to the game in Patch 2.4 in January 2016. They are special, custom-designed dungeons that each correspond to a particular class Item Set, and can only be entered, solo, by characters geared in the corresponding item set.

The Monk summons a human figure with an ethereal, translucent appearance. These seem to be themed to match the coloration suggested by the title of the rune effects. Air Ally is white and transparent, Water is blueish, etc.
Development
Mystic Ally has not yet been seen in action. It was revealed by name and tooltip at the July 2011 Press Event, where it was a level 27 skill.

Beta
The beta started in September 2011, and Mystic Ally remained a level 27 skill. The skill system was once again overhauled for the Beta Patch 13 in February 2012, and Mystic Ally was classified as a Focus skill and moved to level 30. For Beta Patch 14, it was dropped down to level 22.
|1
|Westmarch originally grew from the efforts of the great general Rakkis to spread his religion beyond the realms of the east. Seized by the superstitions of the Zakarum faith, he drove his paladins relentlessly across the barbaric western lands, subduing the uncivilized tribes he found there. Ulimately, he became king of them all. Abd al-Hazir
|Souls of Dead
|-
|2
|Despite his superstitious views, Rakkis ruled as a just and fair king who was much loved by his people. He was succeeded by his son Korsikk who attempted to eradicate the barbarian tribes of the north. The line of Rakkis was broken when Korsikk's son, Korelan, died with no heirs. Abd al-Hazir
|Souls of Dead
Talk to the Mystic
|-
|3
|After Korelan's death, the crown passed to Justinian I through a somewhat convoluted interpretation of Zakarum scripture. Thus began the Justinian dynasty. Seen as usurpers by many, the Justinians suffered nearly constant challenges to their rule. Finally, during the reign of Justinian III, a full-fledged insurrection broke out in the outlying region of Cartolus. Abd al-Hazir
|The Harbinger
|-
|4
|The Cartolus Insurrection was led by a woman known only as Tyrra, who claimed to be descended from the Sons of Rakkis. This uprising was immediately seen as a war of the common man against the nobles and their Zakarum strictures. During the very height of the conflict, Tyrra seized control of Westmarch and proclaimed herself empress. Abd al-Hazir
|The Harbinger
After entering Westmarch Heights and then returning to town.
|-
|5
|Tyrra's newly established rule over Westmarch did nothing to quell the civil war, which continued until she was driven mad and eventually killed by the plague. Cornelius, grandson of Justinian III and slave to the Zakarurn faith, used this opening to crush the rebels once and for all and become the new king. Abd al-Hazir
|The Witch
|-
|6
|The Zakarum Church always held an unhealthy sway in Westmarch, even after the ascension of rulers more interested in power than religion. When the true nature of the faith was finally exposed, however, it completely eroded any influence the church had over civil affairs. And rightly so, I might add. Abd al-Hazir
|Battlefields of Eternity
|-
|7
|Westmarch is currently ruled by Justinian IV. Originally thought to be a callow youth, Justinian came into his own in the years following his ascension to the throne. Rumors still abound about demonic activity surrounding his coronation, but I believe those are simply the product of overactive imaginations fueled by the ever-prevalent myths of the Zakarum.
