Hi Leord: I got your message but I am not sure about the best way to answer to you. In fact, editing this post is the only way I could think of. How do you make sure there is a new message tag that pops up on your account when I send you a message? Anyways, yes I am currently trying to update the prefixes and suffixes data on diabloII wiki. I am not that experienced with Wiki (I work trial and error mostly) but I have been playing Diablo for 5 years so I know the game pretty well now. (unsigned: 08:33, 26 August 2008 [[User_talk:Widus|Widus]])
We can keep discussions on one page, instead of flip-flopping here and there, and I assume my talk page will become quite busy, so lots of interesting things will be dealt with here ^^ I must say that you seem to be doing fine, and the prefixes and suffixes are important parts of Diablo, so great Kudos to you! ==Question about signatures and Diablo III fact page==

Hello Leord!

Should I sign every page I edit? I understand signing the user pages and so on, but lots of times the edit can be only a small one and I don't want to take credit for it by signing the whole page. Could you clear this one up for me? When should I use signatures?

Also, is there a Diablo III fact page yet? The kind of page which collects all the interesting facts about the game: release date, number of acts, playable character classes, game engine and so on. Not an in-depth article, just a quick "fact sheet" so people won't have to search all those little pieces of information all by themselves across the wiki. As the [http://www.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=16571 recent boomtown article] tells us there's going to be four acts and confirmes once again that there's five character classes, it might be enough to start such a "fact page", especially when the news are that the barbarian is the only recurring character class. --[[User:Mouseman|Mouseman]] 08:41, 23 August 2008 (CEST)

: Hi Mouseman. You should only sign talk page edits. As for any other page, they would be cluttered with signs everywhere, and we're doing this as a communal project, so everyone's edits (that are not vandalism) are welcome and appreciated.

: The fact sheet is a great idea, and while we don't have one, I'd post it in the news even if you did something out of the [[Fact Sheet]]. I think we have the official sheet laying about, I know Flux mentioned it in the news recently, might be in the [http://www.diii.net/articles/ Diii.net articles section]... Something to start from, and add to. Probably not that advanced, and the Boomtown article might be some cheat sheet help as well. =) --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 14:37, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
== Minor Edits? ==

Hi Leord,<br/>
Question for you: does flagging an edit as minor yield some advantage when dealing with the revision history? What is the threshold for determining whether an edit is a minor change (i.e. is there a convention or is it mostly for typos)?<br/>
--[[User:Azymn|Azymn]] 08:29, 23 August 2008 (CEST)

: Good question! We currently do not have a convention for it, and the main reasoning is to be able to hide it in the [[Special:Recent Changes|Recent Changes]]. So, for right now, please do check it if it's minor, but if you don't, it's no biggie. I'd say that typo changes, or changing a word in a sentence to make it easier to understand is placed as "minor". =) --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 14:37, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
== Class and Skill formats ==

Hi Leord, good to see you on the liveblog the other day. About the character/skill pages: now that we have a bit more info on characters and skills, I was thinking to rewrite the character screens and skill lists so they're more consistent, and hopefully present the data we have now a little better. I figured I'd wait a few weeks for all the new info to trickle in before doing this, but wanted to run it by you to see if that approach is too drastic or if you (or Flux or Elly) have a strong idea of how you want them laid out. I planned to make some temporary pages for preview purposes. Thoughts?<br /> -- [[User:Azymn|Azymn]] 05:16, 14 October 2008 (CEST)

: That sounds awesome! I know they need reworking, and never be afraid of playing a bit with the wiki. I recommend making test pages on your profile page. Just do it like this: [[User:Azymn/Barbarian_skills]], and we can discuss it there as well. Make sure to poke me, in case I miss the updates in the recent changes page. --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 18:07, 14 October 2008 (CEST)
Hi, Leord. You left me a message somehow. I'm still getting used to using this here wikithing. I'm glad you liked my edit in the jewels section. Hi again Leord! The NPCs page isn't linked properly in the main page pull-down menu. I don't know how to forward pages so I was wondering if you could do it? So the category:Npcs page should be forwarded to category:NPCs.

I was kind of bummed that you didn't mention me in the main page news when you thanked people's effor on the wiki ;) Did you forget me so soon? :) Well, anyway, I try to polish the [[NPCs]] page yet again and do an edit about Adria the witch today.
NPCs, Non-Player Characters, are the principle sources of information about the game's [[lore]]. They are also the usual sources for [[quests]] and quest rewards, and the NPC merchants are invaluable for equipping your hero for battle.

==List of known NPCs==

Here is the list of confirmed NPCs that are going to be in Diablo 3.

===Deckard Cain===

[[image:Cain-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|Deckard Cain concept art.]]

[[Deckard Cain]] is an essential character in the Diablo universe. As a wise sage and the last of the Horadrim, Cain has played an important part in both Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 games.

Deckard Cain is seen on the gameplay video[http://www.diablo3.com] from the [[WWI 2008]]. In the gameplay video the player rescues Cain once again, apparently in the New Tristram Cathedral.

There is mention of Deckard Cain on the [http://www.diablo3.com main page] of the official page:

:"When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of [[Tristram Cathedral]] seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world."

There is also a lore item, named [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml Deckard Cain's journal], in the official Diablo 3 website. The main events of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 are introduced in the journal.

By the looks of it, Deckard Cain will be a major NPC in Diablo 3.

==List of possible NPCs==

As of now, we don't have a lot information concerning the Non-Player Characters. Because of that here is a section dedicated to possible NPCs as well.

===Leah===

[[image:Leah-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|An official still image from the cinematic trailer.]]

[[Leah]] is mentioned by name in the gameplay trailer. The barbarian says to Deckard Cain that Leah worries for him. (Leah was confirmed as her name when Blizzard called her that in [http://www.diii.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1149&cat=550 an official wallpaper].) It seems that Leah gave the player the quest to rescue Deckard Cain in the catacombs below the old Tristram Monastery.

There is an interesting passage in the [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/bestiary/gnarledwalker.xml Gnarled Walkers lore entry] in the official page, concerning the village of Wortham:

:"I likewise found it odd that there seemed to be only elderly people in the village, with the exception of one beautiful young woman whose father was quite insistent I keep my distance from her. Though he was rude on this point, I found him to be a rather sociable sort once convinced I was not interested in his daughter. He introduced himself as Pablo DeSoto"

There is speculation going about that Leah, the girl from the cinematic trailer, is actually the daughter of Pablo DeSoto mentioned in the lore. Other speculations include Leah being the new narrator, Cain's daughter or apprentice.

Be as it may, it is clear that there is some significance to the appearance on the cinematic trailer, as these take a substantial amount of time to prepare. Any random NPCs may be dropped out of the game as the development progresses but Leah was important enough to be put in the trailer which they had to begin working on months before the game announcement.

===Pablo DeSoto===

[[image:desoto-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Concept art of Pablo DeSoto.]]

[[Pablo DeSoto]] is seen in the concept art and mentioned in the [[Gnarled Walker]]s lore entry, as quoted above. He is said to be knowledgeable of magic and mentioned to have some sort of grudge against necromancers, as it is revealed in the [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/bestiary/gnarledwalker.xml Gnarled Walkers lore entry].

There is writings on upper left corner of [http://www.diablowiki.net/Image:Desoto-concept1.jpg the concept art picture of DeSoto] indicating that he is been around at least from December 2006. Pablo DeSoto was also the first person to be named in the lore section of the official page. This indicates that Pablo DeSoto is an important character, most probably a NPC. This would make sense if the speculation is proven right about Leah being the daugher of DeSoto.

===Adria===

[[image:adria.jpg|right|thumb|200px|Concept art of Adria seen in BlizzCon 2008.]]

[[Adria]], the witch from [[Diablo 1]], is mentioned in [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml Deckard Cain's journal]. On the top of that a concept art of [[Adria]] was seen at the [[BlizzCon 2008]], thought it hasn't been officially revealed yet. Blizzard has done some background concept art, mainly the art of [[Skovos Isles]], they aren't going to visualise in game, but it is a strong possibility that we will see Adria in Diablo III - possibly as a NPC or maybe even as a traitor-like character, like Nithalak was in Diablo II.

===Other possible NPCs===

It is indicated that multiple characters from previous games are returning. [[Jay Wilson]] says in [http://www.diii.net/n/680404/more-d2-classes-playable-in-d3 an interview] that they're "bringing back a lot of characters from the previous games." This is elaborated on [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/08/12/diablo-iii-storyline/ another interview] in which he says that "people can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books. We're definitely going to bring a few of them in."

A list of potential NPCs for Diablo III:
* [[Abd al-Hazir]] - Travelling scribe, documenting lore.
* [[Franklin Burroughs]] - He's a [[Dune Thresher]]-hunter.
I wrote a Mac OS X editor for D2 characters. And sometimes actually play the game. Is there anything you specifically need help with?

Some of that looked like it was written by a 7-year-old, but I felt like it'd have been too much effort to fix up properly. --[[User:Doctorjorts|Doctorjorts]] 17:51, 3 October 2008 (CST)

Hi again Leord! The NPCs page isn't linked properly in the main page pull-down menu. I don't know how to forward pages so I was wondering if you could do it? So the category:Npcs page should be forwarded to [[NPCs]]. Unless we break down the current NPCs page, but I kind of like it as a long article rather than multiple mini-articles, since we don't know many NPCs as of now.

I was kind of bummed that you didn't mention me in the main page news when you thanked people's effor on the wiki ;) Did you forget me so soon? :) Well, anyway, I try to polish the NPC page yet again and do an edit about Adria the witch today. : Cool! Well, take a look at this talk page, this is basically how to do it. Just remember to sign your posts on talk pages, to make it easier to see who posted =) Just make any edit on my talk page, and I'll get a small notification next time I log in to the wiki. To reply, just use ":" in front of the text, like I did here, and make a new headline for new topics. Make new headlines on top.

== Minor Edits? ==

::The fine thing with wikis is that even if someone makes horrible mistakes, they are easy to fix, and no data is ever lost. The worst thing that can happen is that someone deliberately vandalises, and then it takes *time* to fix, never any permanent damage =) Regardless, that's hardly what you're doing, and I think it's GREAT that you want to be one to stick out of the crowd and actually help out on the wiki instead of just "consuming" the material, so to speak!

::For "wrongs", you haven't made any as far as I know, but it custom on wikis to use this type of format on talk pages. Use a headline for each topic, and then reply with ":" in front, like this... One ":" will make a small indent, "::" will make a bigger, etc etc. =) That means that your reply to my comment now would use ":::". Also, always "sign" your posts, on your own talk pages or elsewhere. Either type "<nowiki>--~~~~</nowiki>" right ouy, or click [http://www.diablowiki.net/skins/common/images/button_sig.png this image] in the edit field =)

::You can use your user page to denote to others who you are, and what you're up to in the wiki atm. also good for testing out code if you're doing templates or tables. I'll be expanding all help pages in the next few weeks, but in the meanwhile, feel free to ask me if you have any questions. Make sure to ask on my [[User_talk:Leord]] page, so others can see answers easily as well. =) What are you up to right now? --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 18:16, 21 August 2008 (CEST)

:::I'm not actually sure how much time I do have to spend on the wiki - it's more like a sporadic thing for me. I'm looking to be one of many who add stuff here rather than be the backspine of this thing :) I am interested in the story, lore and those parts of the game, though. I usually just read all the news on the main page and add information to the wiki, if it's not here already and I've got time to do it. There have been couple of really good interviews with Jay Wilson at Leipzig, so I'll probably see if I can add some information here. --[[User:Mouseman|Mouseman]] 08:12, 23 August 2008 (CEST)

:::: That's awesome! While "spine" type contributors are needed, the majority will always be sporadic, and I personally prefer a "low level" wiki contributor that continues to add a little every now and then over the years than one spiking one that does three and a half really good articles, never to be seen in the D2 community again =/ I'm sure you'd be a great help just going through what we have and improving. Continuous updates also encourages others, and in the end, we as a community do need the "spike" contribs as well ;) Everyone is welcome in the wiki family =)

==Greetings==
Hello Mouseman! Just saying hi here on the wiki as well. I sent you a PM on the forums! --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 18:41, 18 August 2008 (CEST)

:Hehe it's nice to be noticed ;)

:Please inform me via this page or forum PM if I'm doing something wrong, because this is my first time in the "wiki universe" :) -- (unsigned [[User:Mouseman|Mouseman]])

:::: BTW, left a message for you on my talk page =) --[[User:Leord|Leord]] 14:20, 26 August 2008 (CEST)
==Diablo III Fact Sheet==

I really feel we need a fact sheet about central information that people are looking. Most of the people who come to the wiki are looking for an easy acces to some of the basics, like how many acts, what characters, release date and so on. Certainly we don't know everything, but at least we know what we don't know and can say it like an authority so people know they can't find the information anywhere else either (and come back to the page looking if it's updated). And basically we have a lot of interviews outlining all of the basics I listed and more, so really just collecting some quotes like "barbarian will be the only returning class", "we are thinking of having same number of acts like in Diablo II", "I'm hoping it will be released before 2011 or 2012" and stuff like that really would help people who don't read every news item.

It could be the featured page even. Anyway, as it is something kinda big I don't feel like I am the one who should start this kind of a page since my wiki skills are pretty much limited to writing text with links. What do you guys think about this? Does this kind of a page already exist? --[[User:Mouseman|Mouseman]] 11:51, 31 August 2008 (CEST)

[[image:concept-caldeum1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Caldeum concept art.]]'''Caldeum''' is a second [[town]] confirmed to be in Diablo III. It has been known as an enormous trading centre only recently occupied by the [[Kehjistan]] government following the fall of [[Kurast]].

It remains to be seen how Blizzard is going to capture the "trade capital of the entire world" in-game, as it would be substantially larger than any of the act towns seen in the previous games.

Caldeum can also be seen in the [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/worldmap.xml official world map].

==Background==
There is [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/environments/caldeum.xmla a lore entry about Caldeum] on the official Diablo III page. An excerpt from the lore page culminates the recent activity in the area:

:"Caldeum was once the proudest city in all of [[Kehjistan]], the trade capital of the entire world. Caldeum was never seen as the heart of the empire, even though it rivaled [[Viz-jun]], and later [[Kurast]], in size, and those who called Caldeum their home liked it that way. -- ''Let Kurast see itself as the center of the world'', they would say. ''We'll keep our free exchange of goods, currency, and ideas, thank you very much''.

:-- This veneer began to shred when [[Emperor Hakan]] became ill. His influence started to wane, and the mood in Caldeum changed with his health. As he got worse, so did our once fair city.

:When he died and his ineffectual child heir took the throne, Caldeum began to circle the abyss. Our list of ills seems never-ending: the state of our downtrodden and the slums they are forced to live in, our incompetent leadership, the re-emergence of the intolerant [[Zakarum]], and their quarrels with our mage class... I could go on for pages.

:It is all too much for one to bear, really."

New Tristram is one of the towns in Diablo III. It's a wretched, rotting corpse of a town, grown up on the ruins of the old Tristram that blossomed during past ages, but has now fallen into decay.

[[WWI 2008: D3 Lore and Environmental Art Panel]] Q&A session revealed that New Tristram is the starting town of Diablo III.

There is a [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/environments/tristram.xml New Tristram lore entry] in the official page. The following quotation summarizes the rise and fall of New Tristram:

:"New Tristram has been in existence for several years, though the exact date of its founding is unclear. Originally simply a collection of merchants looking to profit on adventurers and travelers drawn by legends of riches within the old cathedral, it slowly set down roots and became an established town. As soon as the cathedral was looted bare, however, the adventurers and travelers stopped coming, and New Tristram found itself in decline. The town is now comprised mostly of depressing shacks; the inn is the only building that looks even the least bit habitable."
:"When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world."

=List of possible NPCs=

As of now, we don't have a lot information concerning the Non-Player Characters. Because of that here is a section dedicated to possible NPCs as well.

==Leah==

==Pablo DeSoto==

[[image:desoto-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Concept art of Pablo DeSoto.]]

[[Pablo DeSoto]] is seen in the concept art and mentioned in the Gnarled Walkers lore entry, as quoted above.

Pablo DeSoto is also the only person named in the lore section of the official page. This indicates that Pablo DeSoto is an important character, most probably a NPC. This would make sense if the speculation is proven right about Leah being the daugher of DeSoto.

==Other possible NPCs==

Other possible NPCs include Adria, the witch from Diablo 1, which is mentioned in [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml Deckard Cain's journal] and other NPCs which might be returning to the game. Everything is possible but without appearance on the gameplay trailer, cinematic trailer, artwork or the official page's lore section everything is open to speculation.

However, it is indicated that multiple characters from previous games are returning. Jay Wilson says in [http://www.diii.net/n/680404/more-d2-classes-playable-in-d3 an interview] that they're "bringing back a lot of characters from the previous games." This is elaborated on [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/08/12/diablo-iii-storyline/ another interview] in which he says that "people can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books. We're definitely going to bring a few of them in."

NPCs, Non-Player Characters, are the principle sources of information about the game's [[lore]]. They are also the usual sources for [[quests]] and quest rewards, and the NPC merchants are invaluable for equipping your hero for battle.

Here is the list of confirmed NPCs that are going to be in Diablo 3.
==Deckard Cain==

:"When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world."
There is also a lore item, named [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml Deckard Cain's journal], in the official Diablo 3 website. The main events of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 are introduced in the journal.

==Pablo DeSoto==

[[image:desoto-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Concept art of Pablo DeSoto.]]

[[Pablo DeSoto]] is seen in the concept art and mentioned in the Gnarled Walkers lore entry, as quoted above.

Pablo DeSoto is also the only person named in the lore section of the official page. This indicates that Pablo DeSoto is an important character, most probably a NPC. This would make sense if the speculation is proven right about Leah being the daugher of DeSoto.

==Other possible NPCs==

Jay Wilson says in [http://www.diii.net/n/680404/more-d2-classes-playable-in-d3 an interview] that they're "bringing back a lot of characters from the previous games." This is elaborated on [http://www.diii.net/n/683843/d3s-story-and-returning-characters another interview] in which he says that "people can expect to see characters from Diablo I, more characters from Diablo II, and characters from some of the books. We're definitely going to bring a few of them in."
Caldeum is a second town confirmed to be in Diablo III. It has been known as an enormous trading center only recently occupied by the Kehjistan government following the fall of Kurast.

It remains to be seen how Blizzard is going to capture the "trade capital of the entire world" in-game, as it would be substantially larger than any of the act towns seen in the previous games.

=Lore=

There is [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/environments/caldeum.xmla a lore entry about Caldeum] on the official Diablo III page. An excerpt from the lore page culminates the recent activity in the area:

:"Caldeum was once the proudest city in all of Kehjistan, the trade capital of the entire world. Caldeum was never seen as the heart of the empire, even though it rivaled Viz-jun, and later Kurast, in size, and those who called Caldeum their home liked it that way. -- ''Let Kurast see itself as the center of the world'', they would say. ''We'll keep our free exchange of goods, currency, and ideas, thank you very much''.

:-- This veneer began to shred when Emperor Hakan became ill. His influence started to wane, and the mood in Caldeum changed with his health. As he got worse, so did our once fair city.

:When he died and his ineffectual child heir took the throne, Caldeum began to circle the abyss. Our list of ills seems never-ending: the state of our downtrodden and the slums they are forced to live in, our incompetent leadership, the reemergence of the intolerant Zakarum, and their quarrels with our mage class...I could go on for pages.

:It is all too much for one to bear, really."

There is writings on upper left corner of [http://www.diablowiki.net/Image:Desoto-concept1.jpg the concept art picture of DeSoto] indicating that he is been around at least from December 2006. Pablo DeSoto is also the only person named in the lore section of the official page. This indicates that Pablo DeSoto is an important character, most probably a NPC. This would make sense if the speculation is proven right about the girl from the cinematic trailer, supposedly Leah, being the daugher of DeSoto.

==Other possible NPCs==

NPCs, Non-Player Characters, are the principle sources of information about the game's [[lore]]. They are also the usual sources for quests and quest rewards, and the NPC merchants are invaluable for equipping your hero for battle.

=List of known NPCs=

Here is the list of confirmed NPCs that are going to be in Diablo 3.

==[[Deckard Cain]]==

[[image:Cain-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|Deckard Cain concept art.]]

Deckard Cain is an essential character in the Diablo universe. As a wise sage and the last of the Horadrim, Cain has played an important part in both Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 games.

Deckard Cain is seen on the gameplay video[http://www.diablo3.com] from the Blizzard World Wide Invitational 2008. In the gameplay video the player rescues Cain once again, apparently in the New Tristram Cathedral.

There is mention of Deckard Cain on the [http://www.diablo3.com main page] of the official page:

:"When Deckard Cain returns to the ruins of Tristram Cathedral seeking clues to defeat new stirrings of evil, a fiery harbinger of doom falls from the heavens, striking the very ground where Diablo once entered the world."

There is also a lore item, named [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/lore/journal.xml Deckard Cain's journal], in the official Diablo 3 website. The main events of Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 are introduced in the journal.

By the looks of it, Deckard Cain will be a major NPC in Diablo 3.

=List of possible NPCs=

As of now, we don't have a lot information concerning the Non-Player Characters. Because of that here is a section dedicated to possible NPCs as well.

==[[Leah]]==

[[image:Leah-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|An official still image from the cinematic trailer.]]

Leah is mentioned by name in the gameplay trailer. The barbarian says to Deckard Cain that Leah worries for him. There seems to be some kind of a consensus that the barbarian is referring to the girl in the cinematic trailer, even though the name of the girl is not yet confirmed. Whoever Leah is, she is a NPC who has given the player the quest to rescue Deckard Cain.

There is an interesting passage in the [http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/bestiary/gnarledwalker.xml Gnarled Walker lore entry] in the official page, concerning the village of Wortham:

:"I likewise found it odd that there seemed to be only elderly people in the village, with the exception of one beautiful young woman whose father was quite insistent I keep my distance from her. Though he was rude on this point, I found him to be a rather sociable sort once convinced I was not interested in his daughter. He introduced himself as Pablo DeSoto"

There is speculation going about that Leah, or the girl from the cinematic trailer, is actually the daughter of Pablo DeSoto mentioned in the lore. Other speculations include Leah being the new narrator, Cain's daughter or apprentice.

Be as it may, it is clear that there is some significance to the appearance on the cinematic trailer, as these take a substantial amount of time to prepare. Any random NPCs may be dropped out of the game as the development progresses but Leah, or the girl in the cinematic trailer, was important enough to be put in the trailer which they had to begin working on months before the game announcement.

==[[Pablo DeSoto]]==

[[image:desoto-concept1.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Concept art of Pablo DeSoto.]]

Pablo DeSoto is seen in the concept art and mentioned in the Gnarled Walkers lore entry, as quoted above.
